  2. The Red Sox have sucked me back in, so I am sure they will resume sucking soon enough.
  3. In a perfect world all those Tito Rodriguez TV shows would be collated and put in a deluxe box set (if they exist to that extent). There's some gold there. .
  4. there's not a whole lot of information about this on wikipedia but apparently this is how the German implementation works, there is an organization similar to ASCAP and BMI which represents visual artists and takes care of the implementation...
  5. They need a union/guild/whatever. Then there can be a standard contract dealing with after-market considerations.
  6. Update from Mosaic: Thank you to everyone who purchased the set. Although there was a delay, all components are now in-house, and we’ve started shipping preorders. We anticipate completing all shipments by next week. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships. We truly appreciate your patience and continued support of Mosaic Records. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
  7. This is one of my favorite Monk Quartet albums. Especially outstanding is the track on Disc 2 "Misterioso". It features some truly amazing solos from both Charlie Rouse and Monk.
  8. Thanks. I'll check it out. I can hear that. They're both coming out of Coltrane -- like nearly everyone was back then.
  9. Today
  10. Yes, it's £42 here. I have this by him which is great fun https://www.discogs.com/master/1056751-Akira-Miyazawa-Round-Midnight-Amazing-Jazz-Ballad He reminds me of Billy Harper somehow
  11. Ugh. Sorry to hear this. Terrible news. NP:
  12. This is an interesting / confusing discussion. I have friends that are successful artists / painters. They tell me the they get nothing when their paintings are resold on the secondary market. Apparently they can only "write-off" the cost of their materials. One has a "side deal" with a gallery where they pay him a (very) modest amount when one of his paintings is resold. I'm not an expert or an accountant / lawyer, but that's what I've been told.
  13. Just read that Sheila Jordan is in hospice. Sad news. I decided to spin this one.
  14. LaBrassBanda - Danzn (Universal)
  15. I wasn't aware that it had been reissued either -- until I saw it on Dusty Groove's site. According to Discogs, it was reissued in January of this year. I'm super-stoked that it's available again. I'm not a Japanese jazz expert, but it's definitely one of the most compelling J-jazz albums I've ever heard. EDIT The down-side of the reissue? Like many Japanese reissues, it's not cheap. It cost me nearly $50. OTOH, the one original Kiso listed on Discogs is priced at $1,649. 😬
  16. How does an artist become eligible to be covered by this law?
  17. Keith Jarrett “Life Between the Exit Signs” Vortex/Warner 24 bit cd Japan Keith Jarrett’s first session recorded as a leader, with Charlie Haden and Paul Motian.
  18. IIRC (and I often don't) California has a similar a"visual artists' rights" law.
  19. Very compressed and slightly edgy sound.
  20. not a specific lawsuit, but adoption of it in the US is constantly being argued between artists, galleries, and auction houses. It has gained some ground overseas.
  21. @jazzbo, what aspect(s) of their "house sound" don't appeal to you? I'm just curious.
