In 1989 or 1990 my father organized a jazz dinner event in Brooklyn. I was recently out of college and did not drink, but somehow I wound up being the bartender for the event. Shamek Farrah and Norman Person were the leaders and Sonelius Smith was also in the band. I do not remember the rest of the musicians. At the time I had only been listening to jazz for a couple years and had no idea who the musicians were. I just knew that it was my father's friend "Tony", who if I remember correctly he collaborated with to organize the event with. Around that same time I had a copy of Impressions, but still did not know about the statute of Strata-East in the community. It was sometime after that I became more knowledgeable about the label and the musicians on it. I enjoyed reading this article and the memories it generated.

Black Box: The Complete Black Sabbath 1970-1978 (8 CD/DVD)
pglbook replied to pglbook's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I will keep this listed for sale until end-of-day Sunday, September 21. This is the lowest I can go on this. I think it would be hard to find it at a lower price. It is essential for the BS fan. The only reason I am selling is because this is a duplicate as over the years I ended up with 2 copies. I would never sell my other copy. That will be a permanent fixture in my collection. Thanks. Offered for sale is an amazing, and not very common, Black Sabbath box set: Black Sabbath - Black Box: The Complete Black Sabbath 1970-1978 (8 CD/DVD), Rhino, 2004. Everything (outer box, CDs, CD sleeves, DVD, hardcover book) is in Excellent condition. The outer box shows a little shelf wear as is typical of this box set due to the black felt covering of the outer box but it is in better condition than I usually see it in. Also, one of the inner CD cardboard boxes (there are 2 inner CD cardboard boxes that each hold 4 CD digipacks) has a little rubbing to one side edge from it being pulled in and out of the larger outer box. This is probably the best Sabbath CD box set, in terms of mastering (sound quality is amazing) and packaging. Check reviews on discogs (see link below). There are not many copies for sale on discogs and the lowest-priced copy currently for sale there from a U.S. seller is $147 ($130 - shipping+ tax) so I have priced this well below discogs prices. See discogs link below. https://www.discogs.com/release/689...-The-Complete-Original-Black-Sabbath-19701978 $100 (+ $10 media mail shipping, which includes postal insurance) U.S. shipping only. I can only ship on the weekend. Payment by pay pal friends/family. -
What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.
Aggie87 replied to EKE BBB's topic in Miscellaneous Music
That's a good one. I'd like them to do another covers album with the current lineup, but I suspect that won't happen. There is also this live material, but it's never been released physically: https://stevekilbey.bandcamp.com/album/space-bootleg -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
Aggie87 replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Enjoy! He's playing here tomorrow night, and I try to see him every time he comes around, but we're going to the Phillies/D-Backs game instead. Bought those tickets many months ago, and this is their only visit to Phoenix this season (unless the D-Backs get into the playoffs and they match up again). -
Fake Bob Crosby Mosaic on Jazz Messengers?
jazzbo replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think they were just sent information/hype statement and a pic to put up when they are available. And they jumped the gun, there was some crossed communication. Just my guess. I had heard a while back a Crosby set was a possibility so I'm not surprised to see it as coming soon. -
Thanks for the tip. I checked out the site and, while they certainly have a lot of Mosaic box sets for sale, their prices seem quite high on most of them, especially given the recent downturn in the Mosaic box set market. In general, both demand and prices having been going down on Mosaic box sets for some time now. But, having said that, their Mosaic Count Basie Roulette Studio box set (which I already have) is a very good deal on one of the rarer and pricier Mosaics to find.

Fake Bob Crosby Mosaic on Jazz Messengers?

This seems like a really interesting release. I'm up for it! -
I am sold so I just grabbed the lowest cost copy on amazon of the Sandke. Last year and into this year I have been finding and greatly enjoying those Moss CDs on the label. Heartily recommended.

My favorite quote from the NYT obituary: “Bath toys, teapots, tuned bottles of water, bicycle pumps, chairs, dolls, anvils and even his own beard were among the items he employed. While recording the album “Slaves Mass” for Warner Bros. Records in 1976, he brought a pair of live pigs into the studio and “played” them as if they were bagpipes, incorporating their squeals into the mix.”

This is a phenomenal album. This is on streaming services only, not physical releases. The reasoning behind it I'm not so clear on.

Thanks for clearing that up. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the pronunciation. For example, Marc Myers had a JazzWax column (that website seems to be down for the moment or gone) where he wrote: >>> JazzWax: May 2023 jazzwax.com https://www.jazzwax.com › 2023/05 › page May 18, 2023 — He was 29. JazzWax note: Wade Legge's name was pronounced Wade LEDGE-ee, not LEDGE-ay. >>> Also, note the tune on Legg's 1953 album on Vogue, also issued on Blue Note, has a tune called "Wade Leg's Blues." That would suggest the possible "leg" pronunciation. Here's a shot of the Blue Note cover: Finally, here's a broadcast where Bob Garrity pronounces it as "Leggy" at about 6:14 in. I guess I'll go with "Leggy" in the future.

Fake Bob Crosby Mosaic on Jazz Messengers?
Dan Gould replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
All seems logical now but how is a copy leaking to a European seller and before any peep from Mosaic? I didn't even think they went to production until after a pre-sale period. -
