  1. Past hour
  2. I remember a photo of Kenny Clarke sitting on a drum case behind his kit, probably because he forgot to bring a seat, but that was not an album cover.
  3. What's up there? There seems to have been two Costas, thoughtful pop and schlocky pop.
  4. I was in Odense in 2024 which I turned into twice 2 hours in Copenhagen to and from the airport. There are loads of record stores. The two best ones I saw are Jazz Cup and Sound Station (even though the latter had somewhat ambitious and erratic pricing... I am the rare customer who might buy a Burt Bales LP for 12 Euro... but not for 30...), the two stores are in fairly different parts of the city so in each case, it's super easy to find three or four others stores in the area which may or may not be hit or miss... Anyway, it was a fun city for record shopping and I confidently recommend building your hunts around either of those two stores...
  5. Musicmasters Digital CIJD 20126z/27X - Benny Carter American Jazz Orchestra " Central City Sketches" - rec. 1987 - Engineer: Gegory K. Squires
  6. This again: Enrico Pieranunzi - Live in Paris (Challenge, 2005) with Hein Van de Geyn & André "Dédé" Ceccarelli Excellent!
  7. I think you meant a faster tape speed would = more tape/second.
  8. Today
  9. What Jim said. KB is arguing that 7.5 inches of tape is more tape than 15 inches of tape. When you see 911 recordings the tapes move super slow - because they are maximizing capacity of reels / efficiency of recording calls.
  10. Don Costa And His Orchestra – The Sound Of The Million Sellers
  11. They're sitting on the drum cases.
  12. Privat Production KSCD 0900 - Herb Geller " Birthday Party At NDR's Rolf Liebermann Hall - rec. 2008
  13. I don't think so...15 inches of tape is more than 7.5 inches of tape, right? A slower tape speed gives you more total capacity, but that's because you're using less tape per song (or whatever).
  14. Buster Williams Quartet - Lost in a Memory (TCB Records, 1999)
  15. Some photos of Buster: with Herbie Hancock & Billy Hart I'm sure that many of you have already seen it, but I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Buster's documentary: Buster Williams Bass to Infinity.
  16. Managed to get out to see Gary on Wed. night, even though the weather was pretty lousy. It was a very small crowd - maybe 20 people, but they played their hearts out anyway. Will be going back on Sat. and the vibe will surely be livelier.
  17. Chico Freeman - Peaceful Heart, Gentle Spirit (Contemporary, 1980) I recently bought some new speakers, and this is one of the LPs that I brought to the hi-fi shop to the try out various models. I know this LP inside-out, and the AQ is outstanding.
  18. Kudos to the sax section here.
  19. wow. And a young Michael Bisio, to boot!
