Me too. Me too. Me too. SL: Yeah. JM: It was like I was improvising using them as an instrument like, you know. And it was great. It was fun. And I have never heard that session. SL: Oh really? JM: Never heard it. SL: I hope it sees the light of day someday. Mr. McLean, this has been a real thrill. This interview does not imply Jackie was opposed to this date being released; am I wrong???

But the Wayne session still lives?

-
Well, the tunes she composed/arranged, or solos on.

Guess, Abrasion will never see the light of day.
- Today

Alas, the tape is really lost. Thought somebody here actually had a copy.

I think someone has a copy somewhere. So what if Norman Connors was "over his head" I'd pay to hear "Abrasion" at least once, gladly donate the royalties to Jackie's estate.... In a way, wasn't Art Blakey's "Just Coolin'" in a similar bag, like iffy? But it was released (I bought it). Put out Abrasion, and I am going to believe everybody contributing to this thread would buy it.

The material has not been reissued in the US on any format since the 1994 2-CD set. However, it has been reissued 4 times on CD in Japan since then.

This story was floated out there by the Monk estate after they found sheet music in Monk's hand. TS went so far as to reissue the tune with writing credit given solely to his father, which was really bogus. Thelonious Monk is not the one who is on record as having wrote it. All we have as fact is that Sonny Clark claimed writing credit on "A Fickle Sonance" and that Blue Note registered it for him. That's the sum total of the evidence we have of who wrote this. The fact that all of the principals are dead means that there is no way to determine if Monk actually wrote it, so it should stay as Clark's tune.

Going back to my comment from 9/2/21. Wayne also asked soneone who had the session if it was the session where Vitous bows a lot. He does. So Wayne did hear it? Cuscuna said the Jackie tape was lost. Sounds like that happened years ago. There are some Blue Note reels at Rutgers, complicated story. Could it be there?
-
I figured! This is one that has eluded even the secret society. I think the tape was lost before Belden was at Blue Note where he promptly copied everything and circulated it all to the secret society.

Hitchcock--suspense, humor, romance, and some very deep (and dark) currents from time to time. The man had full mastery of shots and editing. I'm a fan in general of classic cinema, so add Frank Capra, William Wyler, Fred Zinnemann, John Ford, and Billy Wilder.

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

Fellini, Godard, Herzog... the Coens, Aki Kaurismaki, Roy Andersson, a soft spot, for different reasons, for David Fincher's, Spike Jonze's and Alexander Payne's films as well.

Apparently Pha Teryell is off-putting to some jazz purists.
