I dialed up the Resonance 3CD set to listen to Iron Man via Pandora on my iPhone (on earbuds) on a walk recently — and I’d forgotten it was mono, which I’m not at all a stickler about (or so I thought). But then looking for the Illinois Concert to listen to next, on a whim I decided to listen to some random earlier reissue of Iron Man, which happened to be in stereo — and the difference between the mono and stereo was absolutely stark — something I was surprised I even cared about (but maybe it was partially my hearing it thru earbuds?). Somewhere in a box of discs I eventually plan to trade off one of these days, I’ve got my 1986 US ‘Celluloid’ reissue of Iron Man (which appears to have been the album’s very first CD reissue) — and one of the first 20 jazz CD’s I ever owned (I found it used around 1990, iirc). Any thoughts on the mono-vs-stereo aspects of the Resonance set? I probably don’t care about the entire set being in mono — but “Iron Man” in particular, and the Iron Man album a little more generally — is just about my favorite Dolphy ever. (So maybe I’ll dig out my old ‘Celluloid’ cd and keep it after all.)

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
Peter Friedman replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion

I'm talking about in real life
-
Well, yes, but - isn't this a jazz forum, and isn't jazz some kind of music? 😎
-
😁 👍

A long while back, I make a rule not to discuss music with anybody unless I know that they know what they're getting into. And that's most people. We can talk about other stuff and we can still be friends.

I tapped my foot every time I saw Brötzmann play. Just saying, doesn't add anything to the "debate" I admit, beyond the old trope of letting each person enjoy the music they enjoy in the way they do and avoid generalisations.
-
I'm really hoping for an all-small(ish) market Series I don't know if Seattle or Toronto qualify, though?
-
Most "avant-garde" music is predictable to one degree or another. That's not at all demanding, it's quite the opposite!
-
"demanding music"? You mean like avant garde stuff? I consider myself a pretty good listener and I don't like most of it. Fun? No way. I'd much rather listen to music that gets me to tap my feet rather than grind my teeth. If a soloist is just screeching at full volumes a la Brotzmann, I do not like it. Noodling? Maybe? We're picking nits and choosing to stand our ground over the definition of noodling? Really? We already lost one regular visitor (Bertrand) over this thread. Are we shooting for more?

I like that Genevieve Artadi!

Now that is a bottle that gets my attention... Know the beer well from the small bottles but never saw the big ones, it looks beautiful... (Musically, that Joe Henderson is a bit closer to home though, a long time favorite)
