  1. Past hour
  2. 😂 - Saw the Cookers in Kassel. Yes, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart are phantastic. Unfortunately, they only played two pieces as a trio ...
  3. Just another wow: The Core
  4. Today
  5. After 43 years, this track still stops me in my tracks: Hat and Beard
  6. Saw the Cookers tonight at SFJAZZ. Great show! I've seen them a number of times before, but they seemed especially energized tonight. It's been a while since I last saw them and there have been changes in the sax section. New members: Azar Lawrence and Craig Handy (who really brought the energy tonight!). Also, Eddie Henderson was not available tonight because of illness, and Mike Rodriguez (of the SFJAZZ Collective) filled in nicely. Can believe the Octogenarian rhythm section just keeps on playing like there's no tomorrow.
  7. The outsized ego might or might not deserve a separate thread but the QC issues like Denis Charles last year or the uncredited tenor player the year before are still best discussed in connection with the releases to which they belong...
  8. Thinking out loud, there's been many topics on those who engineer, produce, design, etc., all kinds of sessions. I say start a topic on Zev Feldman. We have topics on Ron McMaster v RVG, Creed Taylor v Bob Thiele, Reid Miles v Patrick Roques, Richard Bock, Michael Cuscana, Bob Weinstock, Teo Macero, Orin Keepnews, and onwards. Some like these individuals, some don't. Create a Zev Feldman thread and see where it goes. My suggestion.
  9. Saw RUSH with Neil over a 30 year span. Hope this is going to be a great show, as ticket prices win here in Ohio ( 2 shows no less) and out-priced me.
  10. Hawkins Impulse! Now: This is ok... This: wow!
  11. Isn’t every release one?
  12. 🤘My favorite Herbie BN. Getting prepped for the Herbie concert here in Cleveland November 4th: Hawkins Impulse!
  13. Shouldn’t there be a separate thread where people could bash Zev Feldman? This way other threads stay on topic.
  14. That's deep. I think I know what you mean. There's some weird timing with my posts, please forgive me...
  15. Or...the outsize ego is directly connected to the QC issues? Palo Alto.
  16. A whistle stop is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistle_Stop Texas in KD's time was full of them. There would be even more today if trains still ran like that ..
  17. This. Also, and this is just personal taste, many of his announcements, press releases, etc. display an overweening ego which irritates me and seems inconsistent with the QC issues.
  18. Can someone explain the "Whistle Stop" connection to me? My scant research from Texas to maybe a significant landmark has landed me nowhere; so what is the whistle stop business and what is the connection with Kenny Dorham? And, I am also editing to include this quote at the end of the description above of the book: "his whistle stop in jazz history still echoing." What is "his" whistle stop? And don't tell me, well, read the book😄
  19. There are other threads that go into a number of folks’ issues with him, most of which center on hyperbole and quality control. I don't really feel like going into all of it here, but a search should reveal it all.
