  2. This night was a hot one! Didn’t sleep as well as I’d like but 's alright. Starting off with a disc I’ve neglected long enough, Horace Tapscott “Dark Tree,” the second disc.

  4. Whatever it was, it died with him. I remember reading an interview with Don Friedman, who had worked with Chet in the past, and the interviewer said something about seeing Chet play recently, and Don interrupted him and said, "Wait, you're saying that Chet is still alive?!" The interviewer answered in the affirmative, and Don still didn't believe him. Don then went on to describe how Chet would drive them from gig to gig, going over 100 MPH through residential neighborhoods, day or night. He said the time he spent playing in Chet's quartet was a living hell. That's all I remember, but it must have been something like that that made my friend quit after eight months...
  5. Week 8 results Montreal 33....Calgary 31 Interesting game. The Stamps were the better team, but the Als managed to take the lead late in the half. Calgary took charge in the third. But then Adams and Alford got hurt, and the Stamps' offense generated nothing after that. The Als managed to get three field goals in the fourth to pull it out. XFL superstar PJ Walker replaced Adams, and he didn't look like a superstar. https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/25/recap-montreal-23-calgary-21/ https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/25/alouettes-complete-fourth-quarter-comeback-to-beat-stampeders-on-thursday/ https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/jose-maltos-late-go-ahead-field-goal-lifts-montreal-alouettes-to-win-over-calgary-stampeders-1.2339037 https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/early-indications-positive-on-qb-vernon-adams-jr-week-9-status-1.2339713 https://3downnation.com/2025/07/25/jose-maltos-foot-leads-montreal-alouettes-to-an-upset-win-in-calgary-seven-other-thoughts/ https://3downnation.com/2025/07/25/calgary-stampeders-plucked-by-alouettes-lose-more-than-vernon-adams-jr-five-other-thoughts/ https://3downnation.com/2025/07/25/dont-say-anything-good-about-me-alouettes-qb-mcleod-bethel-thompson-takes-shot-at-tsn-panel-after-victory/ https://cflnewshub.com/cfl-news/cfl-scores-today-montreal-alouettes-23-calgary-stampeders-21-als-complete-fourth-quarter-comeback/ https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/25/3-stats-that-defined-montreals-week-8-win-over-calgary/ ***** Sask 21....Edmonton 18 The Elks' offense looked much sharper with Fajardo starting at quarterback, but they gave up eight sacks. https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/26/recap-saskatchewan-21-edmonton-18/ https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/26/roughriders-defence-brings-the-heat-in-win-over-elks/ https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/trevor-harris-throws-for-two-tds-as-saskatchewan-roughriders-hold-off-cody-fajardo-edmonton-elks-1.2339433 https://3downnation.com/2025/07/26/edmonton-elks-get-sacked-to-death-in-saskatchewan-five-other-thoughts/ https://3downnation.com/2025/07/26/saskatchewan-roughriders-reindeer-games-almost-cost-them-against-elks-9-other-thoughts/ https://pifflespodcast.com/blog/riders-d-line-delivers-8-presents-to-cody-fajardo-during-christmas-in-july-victory/ https://pifflespodcast.com/blog/riderville-roundup-july-27-2025/ https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/26/3-stats-that-defined-saskatchewans-week-8-win-over-edmonton/ ***** Toronto 31....Winnipeg 17 That's three games in a row that the Bombers have been beaten badly. 6. Guess I'm glad I didn't have to work with him, but what did Chet do that was so bad to mess up your friend from ever talking about it, like forever?

When I saw the obit I was shocked that he was still alive in 2025. Had no idea.
  8. 🤯 Wha??? and they didn't play together?!? What a treat that would've been!!!
  9. We Sold Our Soul...was released during the dull period following A blah record, but Warner Bro's wanted their investment back. Basically a repackaging of the first three records, leaving off key tracks, like "Into the Void" on Master of Reality. Still charted and did well, and afforded them another okay record. By 1977, Ozzy and Bill became reliabilities. These dudes were horning and drinking so hard, they wind up in hotels for days that they didn't even book.
  10. I loved the bonus track in the boxed set “I Got It From Alice.”

I first encountered his work as a kid on the 'That Was The Week That Was' TV show. Had no idea he was still alive - 97 is quite a run. These are the songs of his that always stuck with me:
  12. A summer's evening is ideal for Art Farmer, the ineffable craftsman, as he, Jimmy Heath and Cedar Walton send me into some kind of spiritual bliss on The Time and the Place. I just got back from a weekend in midtown NYC, and this is the sort of jazz that exists no more, but sings though my head as I walked those streets. Recorded 58 years ago this summer in NYC. A time and a place.

Very little comedy stays popular forever. I remember when this guy was HUGE. Now, it's mostly just old folks who remember hi. I do, and fondly. RIP

  17. Could have been, or else may have been a timing thing, depending on when your crowd started buying rock albums. From what I see, Paranoid (released 1970) went 4x platinum, Masters of Reality (released 1971) and We Sold Our Soul (released 1976) each went 2x platinum, and nothing else went more than single platinum. We Sold Our Soul was a double album, which I think was specially priced (I never owned it), so it probably looked like the better "deal" back then.
  18. Pretty tempting. I last saw Herbie at Blossom (Kool Jazz Festival) back in 1984. It was a fine show, even with the young Marsalis brothers in the band. He also had two guys named Ron Carter and Tony Williams. Not to mention that Miles was the first act on that very long and thoroughly enjoyable evening.

  20. Yours truly presenting an evening with Cal Tjader's music at a friend's studio. The music sounded terrific on his expensive Hi-Fi.
  21. These Middle Quartets are...expansive!
  22. Brass is Metal: THIS should be covered by a Metal band.
  23. Thanks! Pretty obscure movie, but I saw it on TV one time, a weekday afternoon movie on a local station, back when they did that type of thing. And of course, there is no YouTube evidence of it, not that I can find anyway. What an odd mixture of talent:
