According to Rick Lopez's sessionography, the Rivers-Waldron duo played another week in Italy and France. The program on other occasions also consisted mainly of standards, except for some long pieces listed in the sessionography as "Improvisation" with Sam Rivers on flute or soprano. Perhaps the most interesting pieces were left out of Caligola. The following week, Rivers played in London with Abdullah Ibrahim, replacing Max Roach; an audio file of this also exists. It's a shame that neither Waldron nor the South African pianist considered a studio recording.

It's on backorder (the 2021 one, couldn't find a new entry) - but I'm trying my luck, thanks.

Still waiting to put the CD in this sleeve (customed the sleeve to CD size already) Biz Markie??? This is a rare BN now? We talking about the same dude in that Mtv video back in the day with the Mozart wig playing on that toddler's piano, rapping just a friend? That dude? Wow.

Maybe the wrong place to say this, but I much more prefer Charlie Haden or Scott LaFaro, even Jimmy Garrison backing Ornette. Their understanding of Ornette's music makes much more sense to me than David Izenson's interpretation. Again, just purely subjective and a matter of opinion.

New Art Pepper Box 1959 - Live at the Cellar
king ubu replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Halfway through and loving it! Relaxed atmosphere, great playing by Pepper who get's fine support ... sound is decent (drums and piano too low in the mix), not too bad really. In the band intros on Disc 2 however, Pepper announces Al Neil as the pianist ... no mention of Neil anywhere in the booklet though. https://alneil.vancouverartinthesixties.com/music -

Oh yes I could see the comparison with that. That’s a great record.

Nice. Don't think I knew about these.

Agreed! Capricorn Rising (Rivers with Pullen) teases out how that might have worked

Lieb & all the percussionists sound great -- but electric bassist Oscar Stagnaro steals the show.
