Blumenthal’s comments reminded me of this comment in the Pittsburgh Courier regarding Coltrane’s performance at the June 1965 Pittsburgh Jazz Festival, “John Coltrane soaring toward a private ionosphere of expression and leaving many behind, though some followed his trajectory”
