This thread is a good study in how people here can end up arguing and insulting each other over nothing. I don't see any fundamental disagreement here over anything: Everyone agrees that the playing on the Plugged Nickel recordings could sound like "noodling" to someone not very familiar with jazz. Every also agrees (I believe) that this impression would be incorrect. It doesn't mean that the person is stupid, just ignorant about modern jazz. Of course, someone might also have in mind by "noodling" any improvisation that abstracts too far from the melody of the song. OK, fine. So what is there to argue about? Similarly, we can all have different memories about whether or not there was a discussion here or on the Blue Note Board about a defective disc in the Plugged Nickel box. What is the point of getting upset about it? Let's try to chill a bit.

Is there a distributor in the US that sells this one? Acoustic Sounds sells the vinyl editions of these releases, but no CD's. I'd love to have this, but $43 plus $24 for shipping to the US is a bit hard to swallow...

I can only imagine what a "Sludge" band is. I do hope people clicked on the link, I am not a sailor or particularly interested in the subject but did find the article interesting and worth ten minutes. As for Lightfoot parodies, there is only this:

Starting off a cold morning with a disc from a compilation of Grateful Dead tracks featuring Pigpen that a friend made me years ago. Ron’s vocals are suiting my mood this week. I love when he fronted this band. . . so sad we lost him way too early due to his heavy drinking.

I'm pretty shocked that the "Local TV/Media" for the NFL even shows up as part of the pie. I assume that's just for preseason games. I would have thought that the NFL had to give that away.

They actually defined a metal flask as a "can" and refused to let them in. It made for a chaotic ticket line. People were laughing like crazy when I got to the front of the line and they tried telling me I couldn't bring it in. The head of their security team had to come over to let me in.
