  1. Past hour
  2. If the Heath Brothers gets a CD reissue, I finally might get to hear that one.
  3. Yes, that's what it's all about. And they had blues roots, too. They were Alexis Korner's rhythm section before Pentangle, he thought they were the best for Renbourn, Jansch, and McShee. All other folk bands in Britain had rockish rhythm sections that all sounded similar.
  4. Today
  5. Maybe they are trying to circumvent the obvious (as long as they can) in order not to frighten even more customers away?
  6. Django Bates Belovèd: Bird. Lost Marble LM004 [UK 2009]
  7. 👍 ❤️ every Item from this series is a 'nugget' in the collection.
  8. October 2 Django Bates - 1960 Saw him in Göttingen November 11, 2011
  9. Over the past few days, combining flamenco guitar with Spanish 70s symphonic rock and dirty punk/urban rock from the 2010s...
  10. Thanks Hutchfan. It’s small but I feel spoiled having my own space in our house.
  11. Marion Brown's health began to decline, and this record is reflectively of that, which might be why I couldn't decide if he sounded old in a good way or not. His days of peak facility had already begun to be behind him.
  12. I bought this (last year?) with high expectations but found it disappointing on first hearing. After a few more listens I now think it's pretty good. But there are better Ranelin recordings around, so this one is mainly for serious fans of Phil.

    CD Japan

I just got an e-mail announcement from cdjapan: Today, we would like to inform you of our new update regarding shipping. Depending on the size and combination of items in your order, the size of the box used for packing will vary, which in turn affects the shipping cost. To help reduce your shipping costs, CDJapan has implemented an Optimal Box Selection Algorithm. This new system automatically selects the smallest possible box to pack your items. No action is required on your part. In addition to reducing shipping costs, it minimizes empty space to lower the risk of damage during transit, and also increases the chances of using size-restricted shipping methods such as Airmail and FedEx Pak. Unfortunately, the elephant in the room (tariffs) was not mentioned.
  14. The No Business collections Centering (William Parker) and Muntu Recordings (Jemeel Moondoc) are outstanding Loft Jazz as well. As an enthusiast of both principals I can't explain why I haven't acquired the Brown/Burrell. 🤔
  15. His is the name that attracted me to this album. I've been binging on the streamable NoBusiness catalog on Bandcamp. Really catches the Loft Jazz moment. There's an excellent duo album with the alto (Marion Brown) and Dave Burrell.
  16. No Chico Freeman or Jay Hoggard on this, but I like them both, particularly Hoggard. And no John Klemmer.
  17. I'll add that the "old" alto player in #2, though not a household name, has a significant following. 🤣
  18. JSngry nails 5 and 9 and ID's artist on 10 and 11. Everything you said about 7 is correct, as TD's ID attests. Yes to Elvin and McCoy in 1 as Felser has uncovered. And Billy Bang is a member of The Group. No Henry Threadgill was incorporated in this BFT.
  19. Danny Mixon; he's good but not on many recordings (Music for Todo Modo) that I have seen.
  20. Music Inc. & Big Band, Cecil McBee- Mutima, Heath Brothers - Marchin' On, Descendants of Mike & Phoebe. Just got notice of these from Bandcamp, and confirmed on Mack Avenue site. Will fill in details as I can find them out. I'm really surprised these are slipping out so quietly, given the massive buildup to the spring releases, but thankful the program is continuing. The Tolliver Music Inc. album is a gem, and the recording that launched Strata-East IIRC. Smilin' Billy Suite, the second side of the Heath Bros, album, is awesome.l
