  8. One of the great Carmen McRae albums, with Ronnel Bright or Ray Bryant at the piano, and Carmen herself at the piano on four selections–something I always love to hear. Carmen’s voice is so tenderly presented. Carmen McRae “After Glow” Decca/Universal Japan cd
  9. Sad news I missed from last week: https://www.mlb.com/redsox/news/mike-greenwell-dies I never realized Greenwell finished his career having walked 100 times more than he struck out. That's a good hitter (.300+ lifetime average told you that too). As for the postseason, I can't recall if there has been road teams winning the first two games in both LCS ever before. Brewers and Jays have their work cut out for them.
  10. Interesting that the releasing entity, "Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra", shows only three bandcamp releases.
  11. Members only CD's from the LA Jazz Institute Lighthouse LAJI # 006 & 007 - Shorty Rogers " Live At The Rendevous Ballroom - rec. Sept. 1952 (Volumes 1 & 2) Shorty Rogers / Chet Baker / Art Pepper / Gerry Mulligan / Wardell Gray / Bob Enevoldsen / Hampton Hawes / Joe Mongragon / Lawrence Marable / + guests: June Christy (1 track) and Les Thompson (1 track)
  12. I'd buy a cd. Maybe someday.
  13. Ouch ... You're right . My error may have come from the fact that in German "customs office lingo" the VAT levied on these imports is specifically referred to as "import VAT" or "import sales tax" (literally translated). It's been a while since I imported stuff from outside the EU that I had to go and collect at the local customs office (and pay for ). But all the time the bottom line was and is that the prices of the imported goods do increase by not so small an amount for the buyer. So one tends to lump all this together, particularly since VAT is applied to the total INCLUDING the shipping costs (which the German customs offices do not tire of pointing out in their info leaflets). And the shipping costs cannot be "played down" on the customs form. So this is one major reason why personal importing of smaller quantities of LPs, CD, etc. (particularly in view of the high shipping costs from the U.S., for example) is hardly ever viable anymore. BTW, it still does occur, though, that smaller shipments in lightweight parcels slip through (I had such a case last spring), with no VAT levied at all. But of course you can never count on it.

  15. J.A.W.

    CD Japan

Only tax (VAT) is charged on CDs imported from outside the EU, no import duties or tariffs; previously, there was a threshold of €22, but this is no longer the case.
  16. This was still in the transport and I didn’t get to finish listening to all of it last evening, so I’m starting off this warmer morning with a re-listen. One of my favorite albums of the 2020s. Joel Ross “NuBlues” Blue Note cd 740×440 36.7 KB Followed by Macha Gharibian “Trans Extended” Jazz Village cd
  17. Aggie, this reminds me of something I feel compelled to do here in Florida. My wife and I used to watch Bar Rescue and sometime after we arrived in Plant City, there was a bar just to the west of us where a shooting took place. So every time I drive past that location (even now when the building is long gone, replaced by a quick lube company) I say in my best Jon Taffer voice, "Two people were shot to death in your bar ... and you're failing!"
