  3. I saw him when he was around 70. Still a force of nature!
  4. I am so glad I got to see him 5-6 times before he basically retired. If I had to guess, he was in his late 60s/early 70s. He could still blow then. Great man! Is Lucille still alive?
  5. Long live the Saxophone Colossus. Here is Sonny performing at the Keystone Korner in 1972. How beautiful he plays My One And Only Love. He makes his horn sing. https://mega.nz/folder/PxIgHQbI#JFQJ_t6cColSxPCcD9huvA
  6. Duke Ellington “The Great Concerts London & New York 1963 - 1964” Nimbus 2 cd set, disc 1, London concert A little warmer this morning. Dry, cool air, eerily silent after a burst of blue jay braying. I think an owl or hawk were about. This was quite a band! I just love the Ellington outfit when they are “on” and this was one of those nights, in London. Great way to start the day.

  8. That's good stuff, isn't it? I got to hear Chryl P talk a little about making that Stax demos box, just amazing dedication to get it done.

  16. This album seems to be a nice followup to “Serenade to Sweden” . . . the mood seems right. It’s been 21 years now since its release. . . I think we can call it a “classic.” It seems to deserve such a designation. Marc Johnson “Shades of Jade” ECM cd Marc Johnson – double bass Joe Lovano – tenor saxophone (7 tracks) John Scofield – guitar (4 tracks) Eliane Elias – piano (8 tracks) Joey Baron – drums Alain Mallet – organ (2 tracks)
  17. Yeah, Bob Harris(1) was the Leaves' drug dealer. They didn't even know he was a musician. He walked over to a piano while he was making a 'delivery' to them and played the schist out of the piano, and they freaked out. He wound up playing keyboard for the Leaves on some obscure tracks. Then Pons got Harris and Sill involved with the Turtles and got Harris into the "vaudeville" Mothers. Or about that Jeremy and the Satyrs album with that horrible singer?
