I reviewed both Jazz Matters and Doug's Paul Desmond bio when they were published. He also wrote a novel, Poodie James, I am proud to have a signed copy with a nice note from Doug. Here is a profile that I wrote for the Jazz Journalist Association when Doug was honored with their Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism: http://www.jazzhouse.org/jn/jazznotes-19-3.pdf

with whom did he play ? I once read that he was hip enough to hire modernists from after his most productive years.....starting with Fats......and a lot of other mojo guys in the 60´s and 70´s. Right? At least I was told that. Alice Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, with all those fantastic musicians, Pharoah, Shepp and the two basses and drums and percussion ....Heaven on Earth for me !!!!! 😍
-
That´s what I mean. And as much as I loved to play bebop and still do it sometimes just for fun with those fantastic musicians I got, you can´t survive nowadays playing be bop all the time. Or standards. Clubs and Venues with more demanding expections wouldn´t book you, and records would not sell. How would by : "Ioan-Petru A." (that´s my real name!) plays Bird, Bud, Diz".....🤣 I gotcha let my own creative forces flow. But: You learn to master your instrument. So BEBOP IS VERY IMPORTANT: Can´t play Dizzy Atmoshpere at the tempo on those old records? Go back and master ya instrument. Get chops, and that´s what bebop means nowadays, in that sense: Long live Bebop !

FIFA, as usual, doing their utmost to devalue the tournament. But I'll be glued to lots of it and be cheering on an overrated (here at least) England team. Expecting France or Spain to win it. Argentina and Portugal as outsiders. -
Doug Ramsey was the M.C. at a Jazz Party I attended on the West Coast a number of years ago. Always found his writing about jazz interesting. Doug also wrote a book (besides Take Five) titled "Jazz Matters" that I read a while ago. R.I.P.

I always enjoyed Mr. Ramsey's jazz writings. I have one of his books on my jazz shelf downstairs. Can't remember the name of it at the moment. Also enjoyed his bio of Paul Desmond which I have on Kindle. R.I.P.

Ms. York is a new discovery, for me anyway. A really fine, bop based pianist. Originally from Canada, now resident in the Chicago area. I really like her playing with the Affinity Trio. Lots of interesting YouTube videos, as well.

I believe it is.

"From Pittsburgh George's Collection..."
Kevin Bresnahan replied to rostasi's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
It doesn't really matter at this point as most of the LPs I was talking about have already been bought, so some thought it was worth the gamble. -
Sorry to hear this news. R.I.P.

They’re probably going by another record. I imagine that’s pretty common info.

Sad news but a long life with many contributions to jazz reporting/comment.

The noted author, jazz journalist and TV newsman Doug Ramsey passed away in his sleep early this morning, according to his son Paul. He was 91. Ramsey's contributions to jazz journalism are immense, especially his landmark biography of Paul Desmond, Take Five: The Public and Private Lives of Paul Desmond.
