  3. This one fell through the cracks for me, and I was late in the game to pick it up, but glad I did.
  4. I agree about the Artisan series and that is why I decided to pass on the 2 Sun R reissues (Jazz By Sun Ra Vol 1 & Vol 2) when they were first put out as part of the SAM records Artisan series. As much as I like Sun Ra, I could not justify paying $150 for each album just because it had a premium sleeve and was limited to 500 copies. I was surprised and very happy when SAM Records decided to later release the 2 Sun Ra records in a regular (non-Artisan series) release with a non-premium sleeve and a price 1/3 of the price of the Artisan series release. The sleeve on the regular release is still very nice and the music sounds the same on the regular release as it does on the Artisan series release (same mastering cut by Kevin Gray).

  12. Sadly, I think that too is now pretty historical, and by some decades. As I remember, Tex Wyndham had some five way genre distinction: 1. Black Downtown New Orleans Jazz (King Oliver, Louis Armstrong's 5s and 7s, Lu Watters, Turk Murphy), 2. White Downtown New Orleans Jazz (ODJB, NORK, the Dukes, Al Hirt, Pete Fountain), 3. New Orleans Uptown Revival (Bunk Johnson, George Lewis, Ken Colyer), 4. Chicago Style (Condon and co), and 5. European Trad (Ball, Bilk and Barber). I may have misremembered or mischaracterised this. If you read his column it seems like there were different definitions of "classic jazz", with some festivals permitting some styles and others not. Wyndham was very condescending in his pleas for forbearance and understanding. It's like a glimpse into a vanished world.
  13. I really like Sam records but the Artisan series is really a waste of money. The only thing you pay that +100 dollars for is the artwork.... I just wouldn't know why I would do that. Every one of them eventually gets a normal release for 30 dollars.
  14. a Lee Morgan favorite combined with an excellent Scotch I bought at the distillery itself when I was there hiking the Rob Roy Highway
  15. Anderson Bruford Wakeman and Howe “An Evening Of Yes Music Plus” Fragile 2 cd set, disc 2 This time I’m listening to the gold cd set, not the promo set. Sounds the same as far as I can sense, but the gold discs are cool. 600×450 87 KB
  16. The OJC CD of "Olio" is going for crazy money these days. It's good but not that good.
