This is for Geezer, a brilliant writer:

RIP Ryne Sandberg. Truly one of the greats Those WGN cable games back in the day...between them and the Braves on WTBS, people everywhere got to see, respect, and bond with teams and players that were heretofore less than fully real. Sandberg +and Andre Dawson!) was a vivid example of that.

More Mahler: Disc 7 - Symphony No. 5 An outstanding performance by Klaus Tennstedt and the LPO. -
Here we go... Recorded 1969(mostly)-1970 They recorded a few of these earlier, for RCA, but this is Columbia and this is the late 1960s. I wonder how "tuned in" these guys were tuned-in to what was going on in the world at the time. Even in the best of times, this is some pretty serious, intense music. Oh, nice flooring!

I'm now listening to Mahler's Third Symphony, as heard in this set: Remember the original album cover, illustrated by Maurice Sendak? -
Could 11 be Cecil Payne, maybe the Strata-East? How many baritonists are more well known than Charles Davis?

Try explaining how that's possible to the binary-coded people of today...

Adjacent to this rec is that some metal band, somewhere, needs to incorporate the contrabass sax. Studio and live. Would be a trip to hear.

GLASS?!?!?! Brass is a metal.

They do not. I don't see any reissue of that record, period: https://www.discogs.com/release/1440072-Ginastera-Stravinsky-The-Juilliard-Quartet-String-Quartet-No-2-Three-Pieces-For-String-Quartet-Conce?srsltid=AfmBOooxi24PG_O-hcQtnDb5tmflaFHt6DflBopjZ28h1cXxf7jvqDzj It is on the Internet Archive though,,,

RIP. They used to play him a lot on WBAI radio. You can tell he was a trained pianist. While he was against all of the things the hippies were against, he didn't approve of their aesthetics.

@JSngry, do any of you JSQ box sets have that Columbia album I posted earlier with Ginastera quartet and the modern sculpture on the cover? -
