  2. Yes, saw him often in Göttingen ... https://peeteruuskyla.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-the-g-ttinger-jazzfest-1999 Here in a duo with Dr.phil. Ove Volquartz, longtime chairman of the Göttingen Jazz Festival. Both contributed to the recording with Cecil Taylor – see Uuskyla's recommendation below!
  3. I would say he is THE BEST musician to come from Wynton's orbit.
  4. Definitely a fan, and one of the better talents to come out of the Wynton orbit. I have several of his Negel Heyer releases and definitely second The Search.
  5. Vernel Fournier (1928-2000)
  6. Well, he's one of those four.
  7. Any fans of Wycliffe Gordon? He is one of the few standout trombonists out there. I saw him live once and he put on a great show. I have several of his records, and there are some really good ones: DIg This!, The Search. You can hear outstanding work by Gordon (usually in his very vocalized style) and his sidemen. You can hear him in other projects too, such as Ted Nash's Sidewalk Meeting and The Herbie Nichols project. Yet it seems that he has not recorded in about a decade. How can this be? It really seems that trombonists don't receive enough respect.

    Dave Holland

Saw the Davis, Shaw, Waits Quartet last year and they were excellent. They're all excellent musicians, so I wouldn't expect anything less. [Photo from Big Ears 2024]

    R.I.P. Tom Lehrer

I was born in 1953 and remember my parents had an album or two of his. They liked him. Don't know how popular he was overall, but I think I remember seeing him on Ed Sullivan.
