  10. Wow. Awesome opportunity on the Kirk, won't last long. I just own too many of the individual discs and have been overspending of late. 😶
  11. CD sounds fine to me. I wouldn't rule out a needle-drop (maybe the CD sound lacks a bit of "imaging", whatever that might be), but if so it wasn't a botched one.
  12. He died January 1, 2020, at the age of 90. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/larsedo01.shtml Of course, Ghost of Miles was citing the perfect game by David Cone on Yogi Berra Day in 1999, so Don Larsen was very much alive then.
  13. Today, music/spoken word concert w. Joe McPhee (voice, ts), Fred Lonborg-Holm (cello), Michael Bisio (bass), Juma Sultan (perc). Excellent event but not much over an hour long. McPhee's poetry was quite good. He didn't play as much tenor as one might have expected.
  14. I thought Don Larsen was dead? He played with the Colt .45s/Astros, you know.
  15. Now spinning: Last Tango in Paris - Original Motion Picture Score - Music composed (and performed) by Gato Barbieri (UA, 1973)
  16. So yesterday former Yankee pitcher Orlando Hernandez, aka El Duque, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium and took some photos with Yankee rookie and game starter Luis Gil. Gil went on to rack up 14 strikeouts in 6 IP, breaking El Duque’s team record for most K’s by a rookie in a single game. I love it when things like that happen—reminiscent of David Cone’s perfect game as a Yankee back in 1999. The ceremonial first pitch that day was thrown out by Don Larsen. (As a bonus, Larsen had been chosen because it was Yogi Berra Day, and Yogi was returning to the stadium for the first time in 14 years after being fired by George Steinbrenner 16 games into the 1985 season.) El Duque and Luis Gil

  19. Yeah, he starts off with that burning, driving, articulation, sound and rhythm that first attracted me to his playing, like on"Spaces", and then it's like another guy like Hendrix came in pushed him off his chair, and started freaking out with distortion, playing a different style. Maybe he was just possessed, and needed an exorcism or something. He did stuff like that on the "Fairyland" album, but more organically.
