I was in the control room for that session. Cuscuna missed his flight to Chicago, called me and I just sat back and let Muhal run things.
IIRC, I forgot a scarf in the studio. This is a habit.
Depends on whether it is a special occasion meal - I'd say w/ drinks around $100 for two - or a 'night out' sans drinks, in which I would not spend more than $20 on my part of the food portion.
Guess you won't be going to a place where our son works. :-)
We have family in the "service business" and usually tip 20-25% in the US. You do have to adjust elsewhere. I will never forget tipping a bellman in Rome and the look of humiliation on his face as he left. I had really insulted him.
Yesterday I discovered a faulty disc; Iberia, disc 28, Reiner box.
It chattered for a few seconds and then stopped dead.
I tried it on 2 other players in the house and they played through, but with large clicks.
I went to the Amazon site to see about a return and discovered my window closed on Jan 31.
I burned a copy on my computer and the cdr plays on all machines with no problems.
Anyone have the same problem with this disc?
Anyone have any success communicating with any of the gigantic "music" companies lately?
I must have a couple hundred unplayed discs in boxes like this.
Depends on who contracted the date.
On the matter of skills, though, not surprising. That's some hardass music and it wasn't a working band. Financial realities would dictate that you have a few flyshit readers in there to keep the time needed thing between the lines.
Look who else is in there - the Bridgewater brothers, Bruce Johnstone, and Jon Faddis. They weren't their to contribute their "unique personal stylings", ya' know? They were there to read the parts and keep the session moving. Time is money, as they say, and at least as much in the studio as anywhere. EVERYBODY gets OT if OT happens, unless its a scab date.
After the fact,I heard some complaints about Faddis and some other "studio" guys being unable to "stretch" to add to the music .
I have been blindsided by technology a few times, and since most of what I love has now been destroyed, I am close to quitting.
Still have a great wife, kids and grandkids.
Fuck my other dreams.
I picked up this item in a Walgreen's in 1961. I think the price was $.79. Got a bunch of Jazzland titles at the time with KD, Bob Corwin and Wilbur Ware.
Love Roy's music and am grateful to have had a bunch of personal contact during his last decade. At the very least, I thank him for keeping my jeans up.
