I quite like this set. Roscoe sounds to my untutored ear much more aggressive than on the various AEC or Nessa sessions. He's even less interested in melody than previously.
I don't recall knowing these were 45 rpm.
Strata-East wasn't really a label in the regular sense. Many/most of the titles were owned by the artist(s) so it isn't like the rights (and masters) live in one location. The package being discussed here is made of materials owned by Clifford Jordan. As a matter of fact, Clifford offered this group of masters to me around 1980. I couldn't afford it.
The Berry/Ventura tracks are listed as 1941 without further info on the Chu Berry Classics disc. Sittin' In With 502 is Get Lost parts 1 & 2, also on the Classics cd.
If this set popped up on iTunes for $.99 a track it would cost more than $469 or whatever. Consider the box, the lps, the notes, the research and the discography a bonus.
I am only speaking of $ value, nothing else.
So, on October 31, Ann and I leave on a 50th anniversary trip. We fly to Rome for 3 days/2 nights and then cruise thru the Islands of the Western Mediterranean for a while and end up with 3 days/2 nights in Barcelona before flying home. Any advice would be appreciated. If anyone wants details please email at cnessa@charter.net .
All I wish to add is Fresh Sounds issues (and their ilk) stop issues from original sources. I am aware of this happening in a number of cases. "Fan boys" can love them and (some) professionals can see them as the enemy.
