  1. I helped arrange the deal for this to be issued on SteepleChase and went into Streeterville Studios in Chicago to transfer the tape and edit the "endings and beginnings" for the lps. Nils says he made further edits. Great performance and all should hear it.
  2. Jim, please step back, did you hear me? Please step back!
  3. Listening to the fruits of our 3rd mixing session for the Ira Sullivan project. In addition to the artistry of Ira, I was struck by the work of Jodie Christian. Jodie's playing reminded me of an incident in the early '80s with Andrew Hill. Andrew was in town to visit his ailing mother and called me. He said he needed a break and wanted to go hear some music and asked me to be his guide. I asked what/who he wanted to hear and he said Von Freeman and Jodie Christian. First we went to the Enterprise Lounge to hear Von but he was in Europe and had sent E Parker McDougal as a sub. We stayed for one set and some chat with good vibes all around. Then we returned to my car for a trip to Roberts Show Lounge and the Jodie Christian Trio. Afterwards we all gathered at the bar for Andrew and Jodie to catch up and trade war stories. I was one lucky fellow to witness this stuff.
  4. I believe Jim is on the road.

  7. Cover works, content not so much.
  8. Think this will be my weekend listening (beyond my Sullivan remix). That should clear my head.
  9. Credit should also be given to Andy Pierce for all he has done for Fred.
  10. I was in the studio today and Glenn said you recorded a hundred tunes for this project. If this isn't a big set, the tunes must be really short! Short Grooves indeed.
  11. Members should know Uli was a trusted bartender at the Velvet Lounge for a number of years and he is a great music booster. Thanks for your service sir.
  12. Idiotic for them to use the Columbia "stereo arrows" for the art. If they really had to use them, they should be pointed inward,
  13. The Sullivan issue (ncd-35) will probably be issued with the Hal Russell NRG Ensemble / Charles Tyler date (ncd-25). The Russell will include 2 more bonus tracks to complete the bonus material issued on ncd-21.
  14. Probably not good. A few weeks ago I called Cecil, he answered and put me off - told me to call later. Subsequent calls were ignored.
  15. Maybe February or March.
  16. Question as old as Ludwig.
  17. Are you off the meds?

  21. Chappie Willet Wilford Brimley John Brim
  22. Seems about the right age for someone who heard Ornette and others of that vintage and before with sufficient freshness and was able to build that into his own powerful, personal music. You must understand I am surprised by my age too.
  23. I was surprised at his age too.
  24. I find it hard to believe this is a real question. Always buy from the artist!
