Thoughtful essays on recorded music can be stimulating. I probably would not have entered this music world without reading opinions and "think pieces" while in school. I continue reading today.

ATR is About Time Records and the screen name of a member here - real name Alan Ringel.

Those "felt" albums give me the creeps.

Not many of today's labels have a "guiding light" as in the past. This might be good or not but there is a quality difference. The economics of the day dictate the current results. I receive dozens of projects (downloads or cdrs) from friends and others. If I chose to I could issue a couple of dozen releases this year for little. At this stage of the "business" musicians are offering me money to issue their material so it will be on a "recognized" label. Multitudes of my "rejects" show up on other labels. Of these labels I recommend Clean Feed and Not Two for their presentation. My old friend ATR had a vision and a great label and the guys at Pi are swimming upstream. Wish them well.

LF: complete Downbeat issues 1963-1964-Mar1965

If it is reviews you want, look for one of these http://www.amazon.com/Down-Beats-Jazz-Record-Reviews/dp/B000JHV5NA/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1390092911&sr=1-1&keywords=down+beat+jazz+record+reviews which will take care of 1963. I believe this is the last year they published these. -
Oh, I should get this. Did it come out on CD? MG Delmark Records is carrying a large number of Sackville CDs. I don't know if they bought the rights to Sackville and will be reissuing more, or if they are just carrying what was already available. Crazy Legs and Friday Strut doesn't seem to be available on CD from Delmark. I'm sure that Chuck knows more. LP available from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00413FL8I/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used Delmark now owns the Sackville label. First they purchased the stuff owned by Bill Smith and later the John Norris masters. Contact them for information and suggestions.

I probably have most of them an could answer a few questions if you want to narrow your search to a couple of topics. -
I even received an email giving me a "promotional credit" offering a pound of downloads. No thanks for that offer. Thanks for the tip.

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Chuck Nessa replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Er... What's wrong with the Eldridge box? Don't tell me it's Red Nichols on the cover MG That is the way the original photo was cropped and the off center placement seems ok to me. The Eldridge cover shot was reversed if I remember correctly. -

I was lip syncing as the commercial played. I was brainwashed by Madison Ave in my youth.

I have to print your post and include it in the Braxton box. Interesting! I need to give the new and old sequences a test run. BTW, isn't this in the Mosaic Braxton box? I assume the correct order was used there? (I don't have it handy). Haven't seen it myself but heard the original "manufactured" order was repeated.

Nothing wrong, just nothing special.

Silly folk.

I guess you stayed around. Is this a failure on their part?

The tapes sent to the pressing plant were in manual order and the plant labeled them as automatic order. When presented with the rather large economic problem of recalling all the boxes and repressing the records, I was told Anthony decided the new sequence was interesting and should stand. Here is the note included in my promo copy: -sorry my file is too large - it says: Discs are labelled all wrong! Record one is 1 / 4 not 1 / 2 Record two is 2 / 5 not 3 / 4 Record three is 3 / 6 not 5 / 6

Do you know about the side "mix ups"? I should scan my notes from Cuscuna.
