  2. I've never heard of this date. How is it? It looks like Temperley is playing a tenor. Does he also play baritone? He plays soprano, tenor and baritone. I have if for Knepper and he plays trombone. :-) It was recorded in NYC on October 20, 1978. Dandy set. I made a single cdr to listen on the road.
  3. And we have a winner: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-TOMMY-JOHNSON-ALCOHOL-AND-JAKE-BLUES-RIDIN-HORSE-PARAMOUNT-1250-VG-/300969625287?autorefresh=true&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item46133006c7&nma=true&si=C8p5bob%252B030Ge30iJ26j0r6b0N8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  4. So did Fresh Sound cop Mighty Quinn's mastering or is it a needle drop? I would guess the former.

  6. I think it will be really difficult to sift for the facts. It might be worth the effort for some but not for me. Sorry to see him obscure real research with the other crap.
  7. Gun rights folks should shoot them.
  8. Yup. Welcome to today.
  9. It is an interesting question as to why Blue Note decided to change the name of that album (Sweet Slumber) to Lush Life. Sonny Criss - Mr. Blues Pour Flirter. The song "Blues Pour Flirter" was released separate from the album. Lush Life was the title assigned to the "unissued" album. When the session was finally released in Japan it was called Sweet Slumber. Later Cuscuna discovered a number of cover designs for unissued sessions and released them in the US - Lush Life was one of these. One more title on topic is Dizzy Reece Star Bright, though the spelling is different.
  10. I was hoping for Rudy Ray Moore.

  13. You missed something in my message which some audiophiles might have caught. Transfers and mastering are not the same thing. I doubt 2013 digital transfers would be "better" than Lasker's transfers but the mastering could/would be different. OTOH, buy my stuff.
  14. So, I am a year behind.
  15. I think this information was handled clumsily by Mosaic. Back in the beginning of cds and beyond, Uni/MCA used Steven Lasker for the digital transfers. He had done wonderful work. I would hope/expect the Mosaic versions to be first class. I hate to see some sonic paranoia spoiling the issue of a major corrective release.
  16. At this point in my life with thousands of sides in various media, I chose the Ellington 1932-40 set because this music was my way into the jazz world, along with the ancient Columbia lps of early Armstrong.
  17. None of this mattered to me. FH showed up too late for me to take him seriously - for me music had moved on and my attention was elsewhere.
  18. I must say your avatar keeps me from taking you seriously. Sorry.
