I would like to know which issues folks are missing in their collections. We might be able to help as a group. ? should that last sentence been in the "politics" thread? LOL.
What does humanity gain by being the fastest, fattest, leanest, tallest, etc., and why would anyone cheat to gain an advantage? Seems just to be ego. Worldwide more folks know of Lance than Jonas Salk or a thousand others.
It's an aircheck from one of Duke's Treasury broadcasts. Sonny Burke wrote some songs with Ellington - I wonder if he recorded this at Ellington's request. Anyway, it's interesting, but probably not that rare or valuable - the recording has been issued several times, and is presumably on one of the Storyville Treasury CDs.
It looks like it might be an acetate, not a pressed record.
It has always irritated me that the BN tray info says tracks 9-14 are previously unissued. This material came to light on lp in 1983 on the VGM label. I still have my record. Pretty sure they either dubbed from the VGM lp or at least used the same source.
From my very personal Beethoven experience - number 1 Schnabel (by a long distance) - number 2 '50s Kempff (for an intelligent alt view) and finally the Vox Brendels (for a brash first go by a bright guy - I hate his later stuff). Individual sonatas by others are liked, especially Fischer.
Much to discuss.
Much like some recent Chicago Tribune headlines:
"Motorcyclist killed after being struck by semi on I-290"
"Man killed after being struck by Metra train on South Side"
These post-mishap killings must stop!
It is really easy to paint operators like Mills and Lester Melrose as bad guys. The reality is much more complex.
These cd collections are worth searching for:
