  1. I am curious if you were there or just read Reich. I have a number of issues with your post but do not have time. BUT: I am not a huge Vandermark fan but think he did a great job by presenting a number of players the audience would not hear otherwise. The New Jungle Orchestra was dandy - Pierre always outdoes himself. I think the number of "new faces" of real talent were worth a gazillion "name" retreads. I think the Grant Park facility is more intimate and "neighborhood" than Pritzker. Maybe more later. The discussion of fest funding is a much larger and more complex issue. Sand don't have anything to do with it.
  2. Graf had the first modern jazz date on Delmark. Wess Coles date is from 1988 at Yoshis.
  3. Yes, a live is added.
  4. Ah, demonmath. I forgot about that.
  5. It has been this way for hundreds of years. Why is it a topic?
  6. I am sure a decent percentage of Ken's collection is "promos". Not necessarily a bad thing but difficult to match if you be payin'.
  7. Charles was a lovely, happy guy and a "spark plug" sort of player. He seemed to be a natural. I am sure that is how he got connected to the Chicago Symphony program. At this point, that's all I can add. I saw/heard him in dozens of gigs and some recording sessions. Sorry I'm not eloquent right now. Maybe more later when I'm not thinking of dead musicians. Why not start a thread asking for info/memories? Might get some stuff from some of us old folks.
  8. Yes, this disc completes the set in 24 bit (and a bunch of other tweaks - I'm better at this stuff than I was back then). Thanks for asking.
  9. Ah, the last 2 pieces of that disc make up my upcoming new release:
  10. Currently in the US it is an abbreviation of Vanessa - never could get nessa.com 'cause of some female. My name is from a farming area of Norway I am told. A fair number of Italian fans want to claim me as one of their own.
  11. I always wanted to pick up this one 'cause it has a piece called Nessa. Never did it though.
  12. This is in Sangrey's neighborhood. Maybe he can report.
  13. Be sure to watch The Video
  14. He as a member of the best McCoy Tyner band I ever heard. It was a quartet with Herbie Lewis and Eric Gravatt. They played in a bar in Madison while I lived there in the early '70s. Cecil Taylor was standing by the stage and was jumping up and down. Very powerful performance.
  15. If he had 50 bucks he had an interesting night and maybe crabs.
  16. Why bring religion/ethnicity into this discussion? I find it really small minded and tiring.
  17. Looks like a "slam dunk" lawsuit if anyone at EMI cared.
  18. Pre-Bird.
  19. Too bad the two Carter/Bradford records don't fit on one cd, or is it three lps on two cds with the Tapscott? Any progress on the Joe Daley set?
  20. Did we learn anything we didn't get from Koko?
  21. Certainly not "hip" but I really like the 1955 recordings by Maria Tipo (mentioned in another thread). Great performances of something.
  22. Obviously a Storyville reissue of a fine Chiaroscuro disc.
  23. Best I can say is she's one of Von's horses. That's what he called the mass of folks waiting to sit in at his gigs. The first real horse I witnessed was Steve Coleman and he's done alright for himself and for Von.
  24. Some are terrific, some not.
  25. Fakebook?
