  1. Get the Miles if you have the bucks.
  2. Sounds a bit ominous. Very much hope that is not the case. Sales keep dropping as the outlets disappear and the demographic changes. I am usually willing to lose money to get a project out there. The current loss/gain ratio is crap. I have a few things in the hopper and my family can't stop me........yet.
  3. Still working my way thru the Ellington '30s box.
  4. Last few years I have spent the first days of the new year listening critically to my work from the past year. Sounds pretentious but I find it necessary. Won't be able to do that much longer.
  5. The bit with George Avakian was fanciful - Ellington and Clive Davis never crossed paths at Columbia - Duke had been gone for a decade.
  6. Ann and I are looking for suggestions of events/club gigs we might attend. All recommendations welcome. Thanks.
  7. I wish I still had the Progressive lp. He was a note vendor.
  8. to pad his posts :-)
  9. Next week Newt will be the qb for the Bears. They will be playing Dubuque, right?
  10. the word "stylist" seems creepy to me and seems little to do with "artistry".
  11. I have no person in a favorite "stylists" list. I have a few in my "jazz singer" list.
  12. CNBC said that Wendy's passed Burger King this quarter.
  13. I always groaned when I saw him on tv - I always knew what he would say,
  14. For me "what's relevant about Kenton" is the music left behind - arrangements, solos, etc. The myth of the man (there seem to be at least 2) is not of import to me.
  15. Mississippi John Hurt Timi Yuro Jim Sangrey
  16. All the best to and old "almost friend" in Madison.
  17. guess that story I remember was about another concert at the 1986 (or 1987) Mt. Fuji Blue Note festival... some recorings have shown up over on dime years ago. Must have been a comment there? Or a comment in the Moncur Select's booklet, maybe? The story is in the notes to the Hill Select of unissued BN sessions.
  18. If you don't have it, you can buy the Lambert from Allen. Ultimately, I go for music vs technology. If the only version of Potato Head was a "scrubbed" version I'd buy it. I have done this many times and wait/hope for a better version. Over the years I have probably had 6 or 7 versions. None of them did damage to me. This advice is only for folks looking for music, not engineering.
  19. u so smart. i was about to do something like that.
  20. Anton Chigurh Ed Tom Bell Thom Bell
  21. FWIW, there are 2 versions (stereo & mono) of the Big Reunion. I have originals of both and am not sure of the differences and editing. Mono original: Stereo original: The Cool Fever cover seems to be a counterfeit. Close but incorrect.
  22. That is it.
