  1. Thanks. It is a lovely recording.
  2. Relax..........Just a kid and a cat. Happens hundreds of times a minute.
  3. Never heard of her. Why are you drawing attention to her?
  4. "We always pronounced it Abernathy". I hope someone gets the reference.
  5. I have had multiple conversations with Cecil beginning in 1970. I have always understood everything he said. My favorite "Cecil experience" was a limo ride, in Chicago, drinking cognac and talking about Wynton M.
  6. Scrubbing Bubbles John Bubbles Joe Edwards (Butterbeans)
  7. Love 'em since the Monitor days, at least.
  8. Whatever. BN did what they did. It was a wonderful thing. The remnants are being tossed about by the collapse of the recorded music biz. Mr. Not Was found a nice corporate home, in charge of an icon. He will never please everyone. He will never please himself and he will never please me. He only needs to please his boss so he can keep getting checks. Not a bad thing, not a good thing. Wish I had those tapes.
  9. The new issue of Cadence has reviews of Roscoe's Before There Was Sound and Von Freeman's Have No Fear. There is also a short interview with Roscoe. Not sure why they couldn't do a thorough one, unless RM declined.
  10. Cecil reveals more in his vague comments than many. I was bummed the 5 hours of interview, an early "come on" in the piece, turned out to be such a small part of the piece. I wound up wondering if Ratliff was wearing the "5 hours" as a badge of honor and didn't really want to share. This stuff drives me nuts.
  11. Maybe we could hurry things along by contacting Jonathan directly at http://internationalphonographinc.com/.
  12. Thanks. Much appreciated. I hope I remember to come back tomorrow and read this again.
  13. Conversations first issued on Alan Douglas' FM label. The original issue of Iron Man on Douglas was gold. This is how I first got them. I now have a boxed version of the 2 Fuel 2000 cds titled This Is.
  14. There are only 8 sides but are more than worthy of careful reissue.
  15. Brown Betty Betty Carter Carter Spills
  16. Lovely recital - just about an hour long. All the pieces were related to Abbey Lincoln. Small theater (140 seats) and a lovely piano. After the program Ran returned to the piano bench for informal discussion with the stragglers, including about a half dozen high school classmates of Abbey. We spoke briefly. Ran was using a walker to move about. He asked me to pass on his greeting to you, Terry, Art and Larry.
  17. Around 1968 all the major labels stopped the dual inventories of mono/stereo. Rather than scrap all the mono jackets they printed stickers.
  18. I'm amazed anyone here needs these recordings.
  19. The Robinson sounds like relatively intelligent noodling to me. The Fischer is more complex but I do not think it is "genius", just very interesting. That is enough for me to make the new cd a "must buy"!!
  20. More like getting Hershey's chocolate on your fries.
