  1. It could be this one, which I produced:
  2. Not Griffin.
  3. Thanks for the link John.
  4. I had many personal interactions with the fine human named Jodie Christian. He was always kind, gentle and very musical. I had the privilege of recording him with Ira Sullivan and Wilbur Campbell in 1977. In 1980 (I think) I received a phone call from Andrew Hill. He hadn’t been home in over a decade but was in Chicago to visit his ailing mother. We had never met but he said he wanted to see some old friends and hear some music and thought I would be a good guide. I asked which musicians he wanted to see/hear and he responded with Von Freeman and Jodie Christian. We went to the Enterprise Lounge to see Von but he was in Europe and E. Parker McDougal was playing with a quartet. We stayed for a set and chatted with E. Parker and band for a while. Next I drove to Roberts Show Lounge to hear the Jodie Christian Trio. I was privileged to sit for a couple of hours and hear these 2 old friends laugh and talk about musicians and situations foreign to me. I wish a recording of this encounter existed so I could refresh myself. The next morning Andrew called again, this time to thank me for the “wonderful evening” and to tell me his mother passed while we were out and about. He was happy to have been with a friend. Edit to make sure the last sentence referred to Jodie, not me.
  5. Yup, recorded in Chicago.
  6. Damn.
  7. did not see that coming. earlier, yes.
  8. Nice to see she appreciates my work.
  9. Extra thanks to Peter for the friendship and drinks.
  10. Enjoy them oysters and belated thanks for your hospitality at the Vanguard. Good to see you again and share stories. We had a great time.
  11. That's been a symptom of a lot of NJ LPs that I've had. Some worse than others. New Jazz was a budget label for Prestige (the price was $1 or $2 less than regular Prestige). I have not found this problem to be common with main label Prestiges. New Jazz was not a budget label. Much confusion arises from the sloppy emergence of Status records. More later, no time now.
  12. Martin deserves all the money you can send his way - the music is a bonus.
  13. As someone making vinyl pressings from the mid '60s 'til the real end, I find this discussion interesting and frustrating at the same time. Sorry, not time to dwell on it.
  14. Heard Barry at Jimmy's too. Remember great gin and tonics on a hot afternoon. It was near "Black Rock" iirc.
  15. The guy's bio says he was born in '39. I figure he must know something..... and that might be....? I was born in '44 so I have 5 fewer years of knowing something?
  16. Probably hasn't been a "clean win" in years. I don't care anymore.
  17. two interesting quotes about that record: "Damn, that's a real bebop rhythm section" - Roscoe Mitchell "Oh yeah, you got the real tapes" - Eli Thompson
  18. I got my set elsewhere and they are sending a new one.
