  1. Sorry, I was just venting. A similar thing happened with my Air recording - the reviewer thought he was getting a different group and was pissed. The review has now been removed. I buy lots of stuff on Amazon (never check the cd reviews) and rely on reviews for other stuff like faucets, appliances, etc. This suggests to me negative reviews do matter. The "ax to grind" thing was related to the attack on Fred Atwood, not the recording (or me). I wasn't fishing for positive reviews, just letting off steam. This was probably a result of taking Chantix.
  2. That's not the point. Folks make choices based on the stars. I can take the stuff personally.
  3. Thanks for the responses.
  4. Seems like someone has an ax to grind. He gave it 2 stars and said: There is two big problems with this CD. The mix sucks big time. Too much emphasizing the solo instrument while pushing back everything else too much. The other is the less than stellar performance by the bass player. And then they (the producer I guess) continue to bring him to the font with lousy uninspired long solos... Stay away. I only sell a few copies a year, love this recording, spent a bundle on the mix for the cd and am really bothered. The review counters a 5 star review and drops the average. Sorry for the whine.
  5. He probably paid for the studio time.
  6. Dixon (not Savoy) owned the quartet master.
  7. At around 5:25 the heavier guy with slicked back hair talking to Avakian could be Brad McCuen.
  8. Drummer does not look anything like Rosengarden.
  9. Influenced by Mr Threadgill no doubt.
  10. So big you have to squeeze 'em to eat 'em.
  11. I was wondering just how self indulgent I could be.
  12. Hans Klapp Hans Pum Hans Coors
  13. Great find.
  14. Probably a Bob Thiele production - it was on Dot. I had a couple of nostalgic moments when I saw the death notice. Watching tv in the '50s gave me the Rascals and his series successes. An interesting life.
  15. I was editing as you typed. Check out my post.
  16. Justerini & Brooks on the rocks. Spring isn't completely here yet.
  17. Probably not. What would you negotiate? And is would not be licensed from Arista - Arista licensed it from Alan Bates (Black Lion/Freedom). The catalog was acquired by DA and that is where the reproduction rights lay.
  18. Great! I have sent the link to all my family.
  19. Fried weasel, okra and RC.
  20. Not sure why we should pay for 17th-19th/early '20th century artifacts if we can't support current music. I love the classical material but do not need to see/hear it in regular concert seasons. Why is 3rd clarinetist paid more than my farmer father?
  21. It also says she was married to Don Prell in the mid '50s.
