  1. I will welcome the return of the site.
  2. Saying Somethin' has been around and isn't really expensive on the US Amazon site. The other one has been expensive for a long time - it is the one I miss on cd.
  3. He's on a number of Braff dates from 1954-82 (Storyville/Black Lion, Bethlehem, Verve, Chiaroscuro and Red Baron). He's on a George Wein date on Atlantic and a couple of dates with Nat Pierce (Zim and Keyynote).
  4. Thanks for the help but the load doesn't seem lighter.
  5. I was afraid that would be asked. I refrained.
  6. Ten years earlier - 1984. I assembled the program. Dizzy's quartet performed a set as well. Richard Davis was the bassist for the "all-star" groupings. These things are booked about a year in advance and a few months before the concert Machito died. His son Mario busted his but to fulfill the engagement. The rehearsals were something else. I will never forget the experience. No mention has been made of Melba Liston who did the arrangements. Many thanks to her. Edit to mention: The theme of the program was African and Afro-Cuban influences on the music. The first act was the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble with Kahil El’Zabar, leader, percussion/ Edward Wilkerson, woodwinds, piano; Hanah-Jon Taylor, woodwinds.
  7. Read about this earlier. Best hopes for all concerned.
  8. I'm a jerk. I resent not having a chance to vote for that.
  9. Bright guy Galper does not equate to Cecil for that kind of music.
  10. If there was supposed to be a link, it didn't work for me.
  11. Bruyninckx sez: Location unknown, poss late '60s Mike Ridley - tp James Spaulding - sax Earl McIntyre - b-tb Larry Ridley - b Lenny White - d Doug Frazier - cga
  12. You can add me to the column of folks liking him just fine, but not caring enough to follow his post BN career intently. Just me, not a value judgment.
  13. Unless you want to be saddled with a new nickname.
  14. Stan Kenton was a jazz fan too. What does this matter?
  15. I still want to know how he was influenced by Ike Day.
  16. Bu is one of my 3 favorite drummers in the music. My favorite bands are hard to sort out. My first imprint was on the Morgan/Shorter/Timmons band (I consider the band with Walter Davis as the same group). Next was the early dates with KD on trumpet. Though Byrd was a substitution, he was not replacement. I feel closer to the M/S/T band. My favorite Wayne solos are on Roots and Herbs. I can sing them to you.
  17. More Johnny Hodges.
  18. You still across the river from KC?
