  1. Mine was delivered today as well. It looks amazing, as expected. Now to find time to deal with it properly!
  2. Orange Julius Joseph Orange Grachan Moncur III
  3. 40+ years of pleasure here.
  4. It was a harrowing event.
  5. Uptown is planning a deluxe package of unknown recordings made in the Cook County Jail with the guards playing spoons, substituting for a rhythm section. An 88 page book is planned.
  6. Is Chris tipping a sport with kids in the neighborhood too?
  7. I always liked that song called Bandanna Ron.
  8. Seems to be some reaction – Vonski Speaks is currently #27 in Amazon’s jazz chart and #431 in music overall. It is now out of stock at Amazon. Curious to see if this results in larger orders.
  9. Dream on....
  10. Those interested in Eddie should check out this date with Jodie Christian, Sonny Cohn and Norris Turney. When Eddie came off the road in the late '40s he made a few sessions for Chess and got a job with the City of Chicago. This gave him security for his wife and son. He eventually advanced to being in charge of the city's early computer system as "chief system engineer". By 1980 both his wife and only child had died. He took "early retirement" from the city and jumped back in the music scene. This is when I met him. Within a year we were in the studio making a record. He was one of the really good guys.
  11. The group I used had been assembled to accompany Joe Williams (a high school friend of Eddie's) for appearances at Rick's Cafe in Chicago. Eddie wanted to use the same band for the date and I agreed. This group later worked a regular gig at a club called "Alexander's" and played there for a while. I think that gig was still going on when he made the Delmark date. Eddie was comfortable with these guys. edit for typo.
  12. He's a Hawkins/Young man and a fine gentleman. In some ways he was the last of his breed. Looking through my files I find 3 letters from Stanley Dance - one of them complaining about the "modernism" of the rhythm section, though he was positive about Eddie.
  13. I live off the tax deductions I can take for driving to the post office and the UPS drop off sites. The cds are almost secondary.
  14. No need to mention the label - respect for Von is important. Interested parties will find the cd. The piece was 4 minutes long and that's ok.
  15. Peter Margasak.
  16. I've just received word of a Vonski Speaks feature scheduled to run on All Things Considered today.
  17. Why exclude The Quest?
  18. I see the NYT has a blog titled In Event of a Strike, How to Open the Doors.
  19. Do you go there 'cause he can't see if you paid?
  20. I am going ahead with the reissue. It will include another track - I'm Old Fashioned. Eddie came to our place for dinner one evening and we worked up the program. I played the Shirley Horn version and he wanted to do it. The 24 track masters have been sent off for transfer and I hope to have it ready before the end of the year.
  21. Give the Tony a break. Reasonable offer and good music. My post was only meant to be informational.
  22. The Morello material was included in the first volume of the '88 edition.
  23. All this stuff ignores record company/pressing plant practices.
