  1. After Albert's death, a company led by Jac Holzman bought the catalog and a couple of years later sold it to Warner.
  2. All interested parties should buy ATR's three Threadgill recordings. They are wonderful.
  3. From a marketing standpoint, that's the way to go.
  4. FWIW, I think the first disc sounds fine. I have had the lp, cds. K2s but not the RVG. Still sounds good.
  5. I find it hard to believe anyone following the political thread missed his personal attacks on Jim and his family (over a few months). I think this is more than bad taste and am currently looking for that gun I'm supposed to have. I can protect my friends, right?
  6. I know you meant Hackensack.
  7. Unfortunate error in the book photos - a nice, full page shot of Sonny Red is identified as Sahib Shihab.
  8. All orders for the Bowie and Smith discs have been shipped. Some of you pre-ordered Vonski and those will follow asap. Thanks.
  9. Not currently. The fees demanded by music publishers make it impossible at this time.
  10. Please let it end.
  11. Y'all can thank Aubrey Mayhew, once owner if the Texas School Book Depository.
  12. Can't we stop this thread and forget about the bad times? Please.
  13. From faulty memory, Ronnie Matthews on piano, J C Moses and... I can't dig through hundreds of dats and cdrs at the moment but will get back to you.
  14. Bowie (double) $23, Smith $15. PP in North America, others real postage minus US costs.
  15. No other complaints about the sound.
  16. Now let us return to the symphonies. After the 4th, my favorites are 1 and 5. The 7th falls mid-pack for me. I should say the performance/recording has a lot to do with my choices. Impossible to ignore this.
  17. I have dats of the originals and think those concerned with pianos and tuning will be bummed. You will still want it but the piano sucks. This is another of those Alan Grant broadcasts. If I can find my files I'll post details. These new Uptowns are still stuff I worked on years ago. Of additional interest to Uptown fans is the announcement of the 2nd PJJ Dameronia. There are 3 alternates listed - I picked 4 but Sickler deep sixed one of them. I still regret that.
  18. He came into Jim's house and pissed on Jim and his family. Let it die here.
  19. Bowie and Smith now safely in house and early orders will go out in the morning. Feel free to order folks.
  20. Four. If I'm in a bad mood when I die, I will have it played at my funeral.
  21. He still owes me money from over 25 years ago. Fine artist, less than fine human.
  22. Tom Cat is one of my favorite Lee dates. Either version is dandy.
