  1. The "correct" spelling has been on my mind as I assembled our Bobby Bradford/SME session for reissue.
  2. Not sure he ever "soloed" better. His vision of music in general may have developed but not his solos in my estimation. He packed more stuff into a shorter time back then. YMDV.
  3. No. Dixon leased the tape to Savoy and supposedly reclaimed it. Very nice date. I bought it as a new release while in college.
  4. Can anyone explain why Julie chose to spell her last name Tippetts? Wiki says it is the original spelling of her husband's name.
  5. Hans is the reissue master, so I quit. edit to add the question from medjuck was "Has Concord (or Fantasy before them) ever released all of the Miles/Monk Dec 24/1954 session on one cd?"
  6. All the best to the folks without "regular" employment at the moment. This is a chance for self evaluation. Is there something about your demeanor or attitude holding you back? Could be. Try for an honest self evaluation and go from there. I know my personality traits (even those I claim as positive) have inhibited my chances in some business opportunities. Check yourself out to see if you are the problem.
  7. If the cd edition reflects the original lp edition, the vocal comments are missing. Also, in the first pressings, an alternate was missing and the "master" was duplicated.
  8. Only as disc 3 of the "complete Prestige" Monk box. It's a K2 and sounds dandy.
  9. Pontiac, Saturn and Cadillac have been making the most interesting cars at GM recently.
  10. Bought Conversations, Black Fire and Exultation the same day. They were in the new release bin and looked interesting. I bought a copy of Down Beat at the same time, went home and read of Dolphy's death.
  11. The previous Verve reissue had the original cover with a silly red border.
  12. Error in the listing for August 28, 1941 session. The listing reflects the information for the takes included in the first Mosaic box. Later they discovered the error and the "real" master takes of 4178 and 4180 were added to a later volume.
  13. Just finished George Freeman's New Improved Funk on Groove Merchant.
  14. If they die, they die.
  15. Just send money.
  16. Originally, country blues was a vocal music with guitar (or other instrumental) comments and backing. The advent of rock changed the equation. White boys ruled.
  17. Email report from son Eric - " Went to 'The Dead' show Tue. night. News Thur. (Earthday), all the pseudo hippies clogged up the storm drains with nitrous balloons."
  18. Our son Eric was there too.
  19. Lion had a bad heart attack and needed to stop. He did what seemed best at the time, largely because Liberty was willing to keep Frank.
  20. The original jacket was liberty, but the pressing wasn't. I still have a couple of records like this. My copy of Patton's Let 'em Roll is like this too.
  21. My original copy of Cornbread was a heavy RVG mastered lp. This is one of the records issued during the transition. Not a "Liberty from the get-go".
  22. Just want to point out "Lee Konitz Nonet - Figure & Spirit (Progressive) lp mint, jacket in good condition, slight water damage $4" is not a nonet recording, but a wonderful quintet date with Ted Brown, Albert Dailey, Rufus Reid and Joe Chambers. Someone should grab this.
