  1. It seems Wittgenstein was a first class a-hole and last class music critic. He really disliked much of the stuff he commissioned and plowed through the stuff he liked.
  2. Monk plays Poker Ornette plays Hard To Get Jim Hall plays Charles Gayle Charles Gayle plays Barney Bigard Paul Desmond plays Hal McKusick Ray Charles plays tennis This could become a disease.
  3. For my tastes the Carnegie Deli has the best pastrami in the world. Once I escorted a bunch of musicians from Chicago to NYC for a Chicago night at Carnegie Hall (part of the Newport fest). I directed a group to the CG for lunch and for years pianist Joe Johnson told all in earshot "This man got me the best sandwich I ever had". I'm sure some connoisseurs will trump me with a neighborhood favorite but the Carnegie does it for me. Be sure to ask for it on white with lettuce and mayo.
  4. Met him on two or three occasions. The last time was at least 10 years ago in Dayton. He was a real "gentleman". I'm sure he will be missed by many.
  5. You gettin' old. It seems we met half your life ago.
  6. I distributed that one too. It was an lp dub since the original tapes were destroyed.
  7. Yes, the vinyl set was a partnership by Sue Mingus and Fred Cohen. I believe Fred still has copies for sale. Was not aware that Fred Cohen had anything to do with the Ulysse Musique releases. The Amsterdam concert albums (a double LP plus a single one' state they were 'produced for records by Ulysse Musique with the kind permission of Jazz Workshop Inc. and Susan Graham Mingus'. Ulysee was a French label that also issued a Cannonball Adderley concert. Great sets, yes! I used to be one of their distributors. I think Sue received "product" for the US market in payment from Ulysse Musique and Fred handled logistiscs/labor. I initially ordered stock from Fred and finally Sue called me offering a deal if I would buy the remaining inventory. I didn't have the bread. Anyway, within the last year or so Fred still had stock.

  9. As someone who worked for/with Clive Davis, he was a moron at times about musical matters but he was not a fool on this level. Unless you have better info Ken.....

  19. My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I think Jackie only plays on one of these albums, the one with the session from 1952. Guy Right- 1501 only. On the original lps the sessions were mixed and JM titles were on both records.
  20. GG is the first person I think of when hearing PB. Better to find a new sound.
