  1. Here's what it looks like in Whitehall this morning.
  2. Time for me to go shovel snow.
  3. Have a wonderful day.
  4. I could always use a helper.
  5. I'm an old guy and memory fails.
  6. Don't think he sings on it but he made a Limelight lp called Baker's Holiday. It seems to be currently available from Universal/Limelight/Verve/Impulse/Emarcy/Mercury/Smash/Fontana/Philips/Wing/Metro/VSP/MetroJazz/Grand Award/Bluesway/Down Home/Clef/Norgran/Polydor/Command/Leo the Lion/Chess/Checker/Argo/Cadet/ Aristocrat/Cadet Concept/Decca/London/MCA/Felsted/Musidisc/America/Brunswick/Vocalion/Dot/Paramount/ABC Paramount/MGM/etc.
  7. Gil frequently had "low" instruments playing at the top of their range and "high" instruments down at the bottom. That was one of the "secrets" of his orchestral sound. Everybody has their tricks.
  8. Anybody?? Both Lullaby and Different are terrific Dexter. Can't think of others without piano.
  9. Finally arrived yesterday. Great stuff. I think this is a recording that will grow on you with each listen.
  10. I had no idea Shannon and Wadada performed together. What a great idea.
  11. Relating this to the weather thread - shoveling snow is great exercise. I need that in winter since Ann and I take fewer "power walks" with ice on the bike trail and our favorite trails in the woods. About 3 years ago I was at 247 lbs and got down to 190 (I am 6 ft tall). In the last couple of months I've gained about 5 pounds so I welcome the snow.
  12. Gotta stop that damn thing from spinning. I think I can stop it.
  13. Musta been in a public park.
  14. This could take some serious time.
  15. Still fucking off. This might take a while.
  16. I'm way too busy fucking off.
  17. Only if Joe turns his amp down. On the other hand I could bring a wire snippers and work on Randy's kit.
  18. The original was not a "Liberty" pressing, though they owned the company by the time it was issued. This was one of the transitional releases. The "originals" (mono and stereo) were still pressed in NJ by Plastilyte (sp). Funny thing about "vinyl freaks" and "mastering freaks" is when lp was king, all the "audiophiles" had equalizers and created "road maps" for the best settings of favorite recordings. Now with cd domination, it seems to be "plug and play" and bitch.
  19. Great response Danny.
  20. Wouldn't take for them, eh? Guess I wouldn't either.
  21. Seriously? What was your connection to the folks at Steeplechase that they were soliciting suggestions for the title? I set up and operated the US offices of SteepleChase around 1980. Welcome to the world of the jazz record biz. OK. But Something Different was recorded/released in 1975. I guess it took a while before you got the go ahead to set up the US office. It was not released in 1975. Where the farque do you get this info? It, like other SCS Dexter masters were held back to cash in on the Columbia promotions. Duh! http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...10:htk9ikkhbb19 Let me ask you this: AMG lists More than You Know Stable Mable Swiss Nights Vol 1-3 Something Different Bouncin' With Dex as recorded in 1975. Plus Strings and Things Lullabuy for a Monster Biting the Apple as 1976 recordings. Did any] of them come out in those years? How exactly did Steeplechase handle Dexter switching labels? Was it analagous to Miles Davis and Prestige before the switchover to Columbia? Or did they put out one or two LPs in '75-'76, then scour the archives for releasable sessions after Homecoming? So, after being (at worst) a liar and (at best) a braggart you want me to supply you with a bunch of information? Time for research Dan.

Edit to add that in Denmark (at least at the time) the musicians didn't need to get paid until the date was issued. Nils used this to his advantage and regularly recorded multiple dates with musicians at a time and paid later. Not saying that was "bad", just the way it was.

  24. You should buy it but understand they don't necessarily perform together.
