  1. The 12" LP he refers to was the first reordering! Ridiculous! Even more ridiculous when you understand "Wizard Of The Vibes" was a reissue of a bunch of 78s. What a bunch of crap!
  2. Way to go Paulie!
  3. Curious about how many of the participants here were listening to this music as it happened. Were you alive? If you were alive, were you paying attention to the music? Hindsight is horse shit.
  4. Not sure but I think Flora was a Red Menace.
  5. Hmmmm....looks familiar... Jim, I just had the impulse to run for the basement. Then I realized I was already there.

Tooter's link worked for me but Brownie's link is more thorough.
  7. Nah! It just keeps me poor. Back to Woody - I thought the charts for W III were a snore and "comforted" the soloist instead of "challenging" him.
  8. Very nice date, but a bit sedate. -that rhymes. Do you have Bud's trio date on Dot? Bud, Bob Hammer and Mousie Alexander. Another Bob Thiele winner.
  9. Never spent enough time with Woody to produce him. I (pretentiously) feel I need to be inside the artist's head to produce a record. I (foolishly, maybe) think I need to know them better than they do to do the job well. Maybe that's why I have done so few dates.
  10. I find "Flamingos" interesting and "Alabama" 2nd (or 3rd) rate George Russell. What am I missing?
  11. I was seriously bummed - and I'd been prepped by Woody in person. He enthusiastically showed me the cover proofs and played his reference tapes. I was disappointed then and am stuck in that groove. Don't want to temper anyone's enthusiasm, it's just my taste.
  12. Our daughter, Carla had been home for the holiday. We cooked a 25.5 lb bird. Tonight we will have "hot turkey sandwiches" and the rest of the bird will become many containers of turkey noodle soup. The soup will be retrieved from the freezer, two bowls at a time, through the winter.
  13. At time of issue, I thought Stepping Stones was Woody's best record to date and was pissed they stole a great tune for another record. I felt the Columbia studio dates were too "studied" and the Muse dates were too "unprepared". Guess I can't be pleased, but think he never made a "great record". Maybe he didn't have it in him. Some guys are just "first rate" players without a vision to make a major impression.
  14. I thought this was about a Japanese label.
  15. No but I did hear him a couple of times in an organ trio. He was the leader but had a tough time getting gigs. I don't remember the other guys in the band.
  16. Odie made his own rules. He could play jazz in a very convincing Sid Catlett style and Fred used to bug me to use him on a jazz date.
  17. Am I missing something? Aren't these going to be regular retail reissues? That was my impression. But he should buy a burner anyway.
  18. Did not vote - we have a "split house". I like Pumpkin and as the band knows, Ann is partial to Sweet Potato. Why isn't this in a "musical" thread?
  19. I think we were just slimed!
  20. Might be forgivable, given that the list was complied in 1995 and the disc was released in 1997. I got my copy 20 years before that.
  21. Peach pal here.
  22. Don't think we will do any of that stuff. Almost typed crap and resisted.
