  1. It meant she had changed labels and had a new boss to please.
  2. Receive a PM from somebody? Let it be known, Skid has his own brain and I do not control it.
  3. I really find it impossible to believe a producer or label would insist on an extra sideman - it had to be her choice.
  4. I discovered this music in the '50s. My introduction was something like this - Ellington, Gillespie, Armstrong, Parker, Ornette, Dodds, Rollins, Eldridge, Mingus, Bix, etc. A couple of years later I discovered "classical" music and learned the basics of that history. I kept growing through my teens and hope I do 'til this day. It is the "sound of surprise". When I find folks "limited" to styles, genres etc, I go nuts. They are missing so much of Western culture and just plain pleasure. AND I admit I think these folks miss the big picture.
  5. I disagree. I think it is a "polite" session. Not a sum of the parts.
  6. Over the last couple of days I've been listening to Mr T's Dearly Beloved and tho "Little Miss Cott" is on the organ, there is no bass player. It has been my experience, her records usually have one of those guys. Is she a "knucklehead" on the pedals, or what is going on?
  7. Seeing the topic, my first thought was "grooming". Then I read Jacks response.
  8. Shelves made of wood. It's the latest thing. B-)
  9. I've loved this Herb Snitzer shot from the Vanguard since I first saw it in Down Beat around 1962.
  10. The Swiss Nights discs are first rate Dexta.
  11. Had both volumes back in the day. I thought the sound was fine then but have not heard them in 10 years. No RCA titles are included. FWIW, volume 2 covers 1927-40 as well.
  12. Charles Brackeen Rhythm X. Not really a Strata recording, but my choice for the most interesting release. Same disclaimer for my 2nd favorite, Clifford Jordan's Glass Bead Games.
  13. Stanley Turrentine Dearly Beloved. Now putting on Muhal Richard Abrams Lifea Blinec .
  14. Went back to your post and did some counting. Didn't look for "me" or "my", but there are 5 mentions of Hawk and 10 "I"s. Maybe I was wrong.
  15. I don't think the feedback was beyond normal expectations for this kind of thing. I don't think any claim of "bootlegs" is warrented. Seems to be one of thousands of private tapes. I don't know the folks and think they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
  16. I hate it when that happens.
  17. Why am I not surprised? Let us all make the deaths of famous people "all about us". Geez. I can't wait to post about my "really important" personal reactions to the the deaths of JFK and MLK.
  18. I'm sure Mike meant Stuart Broomer.
  19. Modern Album was a record jacket printer/fabricator. They sold out in the early '80s and eventually closed down.
  20. Have you seen any doctors since then?
  21. I don't agree at all. If you are not excluding the first phrase of my post, you be "nuts". Need to get some air!
  22. If you don't know him, do a search. Unless I misspelled something.
  23. Depending on the rest of your collection, this is the "more money than brains" syndrome.
  24. That would be sad unless the programming was lame. Should be room for both.
