  1. Rackjobbers were a "class" of distributor that put racks of records in non-music stores. Generally they owned the inventory and billed the stores for records sold. Since these establishments didn't have clerks tending the inventory, the wrap protected the merchandise.
  2. In the US they started wrapping records in the mid/late '50s to accommodate "rackjobbers" who placed lps in grocery and drug store racks.
  3. Yes, Bud Freeman called Thiele "son of the chocolate king".
  4. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I guess they can't "take it". B-)
  5. I'd be very interested. What's the title?
  6. From what I've heard, Henry Grimes is doing just fine after over 20 years away from the scene. But I don't think this is the norm.
  7. I don't think so.
  8. Shame no great artists will play there.
  9. The Centennial Edition is a good place to start if the DVD is important (it should be, but not necessarily an option). If not, an even better cd collection is the BMG/RCA collection called something like the "Very Best". Be sure to get the disc with 20 (or so) titles. Musically this is a better collection. What a shame the rest of the RCA "complete" sets are gone. Shame.
  10. What kinda' undershirt you wear boy? B-)
  11. I was responding to the change in site colors for this forum - they are now different again. No dis to you.

  15. Stupid, stupid, stupid. We fix about 6 hunks of corn beef, a huge pot of potatos and another pot of cabbage. We eat this stuff for about 10 days (if we are lucky). As far as listening and drinking goes, Cecil Taylor, Coleman Hawkins, beer, whiskey, whatever. ENJOY!
  16. BTW, I think the bass player in the first pic in misidentified.
  17. Is that Vic Berton on tubs?
  18. In your dreams.
  19. I went up to dinner and tried to find this story on TV. Too bad this didn't happen in Atlanta (CNN) our NYC (MSNBC). Keep us informed.
  20. Grant's First Stand does not belong in this category - it was released very soon after recording.
  21. And Mr. Moments gets set #2317.
