  1. Great. All the best in the search for new employment.
  2. Interesting. Fritz Kasten (drummer and occasional alto player) was a close friend in college and was in our wedding. I heard the band a couple of times and still have the first two lps.
  3. While the last 3 sonatas are justly revered, do not neglect the rest. A good/inexpensive way to experience them is a complete cycle by Walter Klien on Vox. You should be able to find them (3 doubles) for under $30.
  4. Yup. I currently have six recordings of it.
  5. Also the 1953 MGM date with Roy Eldridge, Kai Winding, John LaPorta, Warne Marsh, Lester Young, Terry Gibbs, Teddy Wilson, Billy Bauer, Eddie Safranski, Max Roach and Billy Eckstine. Recorded July 9, 1953 How High the Moon parts 1 & 2 5:20 St. Louis Blues parts 1 & 2 6:18 This session is included in the Eckstine "Everything I Have Is Yours" set on Verve.
  6. Sheridan wrote the notes to Von Freeman's "Serenade and Blues".

Juba Lee is wonderful as is Porto Novo, last seen on a Black Lion cd coupled with 20 minutes of duet performances with Leo Smith. I have fond memories of the two Calig lps with Gunter Hampel, Jeanne Lee and Steve McCall. Sadly these records went away a few years ago and all I have are the memories.
  8. "To me" don't count. If it's the same thing, why did the Beastie Boys go to the trouble of getting a license?
  9. Nope.
  10. I still can't find the damn Bobo Stensen ser.
  11. Reece good, Beirach questionable. Beirach is not for me, but ymmv.
  12. What if the author of a wildly successful video game used the image of your child as the villain? Hundreds of thousands of mofos out there think of your kid as a villain. Give me a friggin' break - I'd wanna kill someone.
  13. Happy "next day" Connie. All the best.
  14. It just dawned on me, I'm still celebrating Maren's birthday. Is she back from rehearsal yet?
  15. This reminds me of a piece in Billboard in the early '70s where the newly appointed BN honcho George Butler talked about the label's heritage. He lauded the great BN artists of the past, including Bix Beiderbecke.
  16. Wasn't me was it? I get enough bad press here. B-) BUT you do look kinda square.
  17. I love "Bjork's Wjorks".
  18. You would say that, you "dreamy mystic".
  19. Keep yo' distance fella. I might be a "blue stater".
  20. Hello everybody. As I said I returned to the thread to "modify" my response and was greeted with label of "crackhead" and "Needless to say you deserve a big FUCK YOU! Scumbag...". I probably would have let the first post "go by" if he had not addressed us all as his "brothers". To me this insults the intelligence of all the males here, to say nothing about our valuable female members. Been on this board and some others for a number of years and have developed some "brothers", a bunch of friends, and a couple of "stay aways". That is the way the internet community works. I simply felt "used". If any of you feel otherwise, I'm sorry. I hope Mr Mingus becomes a useful contributor and proves me wrong. I'm sorry I disturbed some folks and I hope someone got the Mobley set.

Yes, I know that one. I ran the US office of SteepleChase in the early '80s. Yes, Dudu steals it. Very nice date. For me, his early stuff had an "inner spine" missing in later stuff.

For me (please understand this) he never lived up to my expectations of the '60s. His music sort of went limp after that. Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe I misunderstood his '60s playing. Sigh.
  23. Can't we merge this with the Germany/smaller condoms thread?
