  1. I can't think of Spring without Two Blue-J's.
  2. I read somewhere that he admired Willie's singing, something about his phrasing was similar to Miles' own phrasing Miles and Willie became friends when they were both handled by the same agent.
  3. One Gateway machine, running windows 95 on a dial-up. I'm in the jazz business, unlike most of you. I'm not complaining, I be doin' alright.
  4. The Revenant was copied from the Japanese cds (as I stated somewhere else).
  5. I have witnessed Ron Carter acting the "complete asshole". Made me grin when asking Benny Carter (no known relation) about desired personnel for a big band I was putting together for him, Benny said "I trust you, just don't hire Ron Carter". Joe G is another difficult personality.
  6. I think she's inviting you to put something there.
  7. Stupid! They don't even know what they missed.
  8. I bet the sentence ended with "on my clean sheets".
  9. Is this a TN or KY question?
  10. After reading this thread I think I understand why I'm broke and why my wife is mad at me. I didn't know.
  11. Hey Chuck. I'm sorry to have caused so much fuss with my post on another board. I didn't know people from here would ever find it I seem to regularly post apologies on this board and others. One of our list members started a thread (on another board) called "Why Is Chuck Nessa such a Jerk". Go for it, and face the consequences.
  12. Hey Geoff, nice post. A belated welcome. Have a great time here.
  13. To answer the original question - no. Not a value judgment, just a life reality. I stopped spending energy on pop musics in the '60s. Because of my job running record stores from the late '60s to the mid '70s, a bunch of info was gained by osmosis, but otherwise I am blissfully free of the "popular world". I am not bright enough to absorb all I would need from tv series, movies, pop music, world music, literature, art, dance, etc. to sound smart. I also needed a huge chunk of time/energy to try earning a living, raise my kids and still need more time for my "long-suffering" wife. In my early twenties I thought I was "hot shit" in many of these fields, but as I entered my late twenties I consciously cut back. I post this to give hope to list members feeling "out of place" in some of the discussions on the board. Just "dabble a bit" to make sure you are not "short changing" yourself. There's a bunch of info available on this board.
  14. In the late '60s and '70s I paid $100+ for a few lps. I still have some, sold some (for up to $1000). This was before the cd era (where anything might be reissued next month). Things be different now.
  15. Go wash your mouth out, you dirty boy!
  16. Are you deserving of the 2nd Orgy? Naw, I cheated. B) Yeah, I just caught that! Like George Washington, I cannot tell a lie and I have wooden teeth. : Who's your dentist? Dr. Seuss I thought maybe Norm Abrams.
  17. Chris, just in case you don't know, the '94 edition omits one track from the "New Tristano" lp. In fact it is my favorite.
  18. I think they were talking about the "contemporary" blues series - many said to be recorded from a table in the club.
  19. It one time or another I've held all the "good sex" records.
  20. I have not heard the RCA set but, IIRC, they accidently used a bunch of alternates instead of the master takes. The RCA material is fantastic, however you get it - alternates and all. BUT you need the master takes. I decided to take the Classics/Neatwork avenue.
  21. They sound like lp dubs to me.
  22. No, but the last cd incarnation omitted some tunes to fit it on one disc.
  23. In some (more than necessary) instances I find this to be Dizzy's "pay back" book. I think he (sometimes) comes across as a bitter guy. I had some business dealings with him at the time and he was a pain in the ass (nomatter the amount of money he was paid). Something was gnawing at him (much of it Bird's reputation). In spite of his public personna, he was not a happy camper.
  24. STILL, no one deals with Sam Levinson or Myron Cohen, for that matter. For a farm kid in Iowa in the '50s, this and Milton Berle, Jack Benny, Fred Allen and Bob & Ray were the humor of america. The current crop of "comedy central" guys don't cut it!
  25. At least you don't have to have yourself "fixed". When I was running a record store in Madison, WI, one of my employees was riding to work and someone who'd just parked, opened their door. Her hand was severely damaged - big surgery. Her bike was fine. I hope you don't have a problem getting the bike fixed.
