Is it really hard for you to be wrong?

When all is said and done, I think most of Weather Report is "Wayne going away". I really regret the loss. He did it very smartly, but he relenquished his power. All I have hoped for, since then, is a glimmer and he keeps supplying those, but no real "pay off". Ultimatly I am bummed. Shoulda, coulda.

Geez.....I can't wait til that shipment arrives!!!! Too bad there isn't a 5th to put in rotation.

Jim, your thoughts will take a few more minutes to digest, but THANKS for the mental workout. I just want to remind all of the Shorter solos on "Roots and Herbs" (all Shorter comps). The French concerts from the same time too. Wayne at the top of one of his games.

The Bear Family discs include material issued on RPM, Modern, Crown, etc as well as the early Chess sides. I think they are essential. The Chess box is more a "career survey".

Last time I went to a barber I think I paid $1.65 and I always made sure to have exact change. That was 1962.

On the other hand, if Keepnews is still in charge of their reissues-----SOMETHING WILL BE MISSING. I'm still pissed about the Mobley/Byrd/ Morgan Hard Bop package.

I issued 2 lps, reissued one on cd (with a bonus track) and my Japanese licensee issued the other one with another bonus track. I have had a small number of the Japanese issue for sale and note I only have 5 copies left. Not sure I can get more so I might issue it in the next year. Serenade & Blues ncd-11 Have No Fear Bomba 22025 (ncd-6)

After Albert's death the catalog was purchased by Jac Holzman, the founder of Elektra and Nonesuch. When his new venture didn't interest him anymore he sold it to Warners. You can forget any hope of intelligent reissues.

They have been issuing inexpensive cds from the EMI catalog for some years. The issues I have are all classical and carry a "Licensed from EMI" lin in the credits

It was a single. J-V-B was one of dozens of labels issued by Joe Von Battle. He was a legend of late '40s/early '50s blues and r&b recordings. He recorded tons of early John Lee Hooker stuff that was released on many labels such as Modern, Crown, King, Savoy, Specialty, etc. A Google of his name should turn up a bunch of "hits".

Looking for Dimensions & Extensions

The gap is more like 3 or four years on most of them. BN pressed all the early cds at the Sony plant and by the time they got their own setup going, deleted all the Sonys and pressed some themselves, offered thim to retailers as a "one time deal" and called them CCs. I do not understand the "age issue". Beyond the defects from one plant in England and another in Italy, I have not seen any deterioration of discs to date. I have been collecting compact discs since the beginning and have had ZERO go bad, 'cept those mentioned (British Polygram still offers replacements but the Italian outfit pressed "mostly bootlegs" and does not). -
FS: Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers LP

Much of it as a result of Conn. I am irritated by first postings resulting in sales pitches or website links. Looks like a "swoop and kill" method, much like a crow - build nothing - then harvest. -
In addition to this "trilogy" I have others in this format - Joe Turner, Dexter & Wardell and the 2nd volume of Changing Face of Harlem. The three I mentioned are doubles though.

Griffin and Kelly were not on their respective debut recordings.

The "collectors choice" discs are simply reissues of older "out of print" discs. It is amazing to me the "choice" reissues have some sort of rep. -
He's an interesting character, a maverick, and an interesting "side-road". I bought my first Antheil lp around 1959 - it was on Everest. His "press" makes him much more important than his product - BUT he's worth exploring. "Earliest avant guard American composer" - Hah!

GEEZ! Your first post is a sale. Imagine that. Thanks for contributing. Good Luck. -
All I get is a "hosted by tripod" logo. But that must be Rick Nelson's sister-in-law and the daughter of the legend of Michigan football, Tom Harmon.

Just like banking, but more honest.

Real story both simpler and more complex. Joe Fields got into the biz via Prestige marketing job - I met him in those days - 1968. Sold Muse for a bundle (that's why 32 jazz started and the cause of its death) and Joe kept the same operation going via a new imprint High Note. Like many in the jazz biz, Joe is the devil and a salvation (for some).

Hawk played Sunday too.

Al, there's at least one thread about the Freeman record. Do a search.
