  1. I have two tickets for table seating to see Jason Moran and the Bandwagon at the Kennedy Center KC Jazz Club February 24, 2005, first set at 7:30 p.m. I can't go cause my last chance to fly to Prague was that night... Original price was $25 each--I'll take that and swallow the service fees I had to pay. My loss is your gain!!!! Please PM me if interested.
  2. Madre de dios!!!! "I know one label that has 40 reels of Sonny Rollins tapes recorded live in clubs in the Village during the '60s. They (the jazz division) know they're there. And Rollins has told people about them. But they're still sitting there."
  3. Rilke? He was a great jazzer! Oh, wait...

Somewhat off-topic, is the immediate neighborhood of Morton Street where the Arkestra group house is/was, more or less safe (like I won't be caught in an open-air drug market or gang war)? I'm going to Philly in February and would like to make a pilgrimage (well, get some photos at least) of the John Coltrane house and Chez Sony'r Ra.
  5. All I know is that I own that one, and the the store where I got it has re-stocked it, too, thus there must be two that were pressed, at least... ubu Thanks. I may have to wait until the rumored domestic issues come out (I'll believe it when I see them, frankly).
  6. DMG finally was able to send out the discs last week, but I was informed that the Art Ensemble with Fontella Bass was "not yet pressed", although I believe Ubu implied he bought every disc in the series. Anyone know the story? Ubu?
  7. Listening to Kevin O'Neil's solo on "Off Minor" from Braxton's "23 Standards (Quartet) 2003". at the moment I saw this thread. And you bloody well believe it swings!
  8. How's the sound on the box set? IIRC, the box set dates from the late 80s and the CD mastering of that era wasn't so hot. I've contemplated getting it, but I have the Verve Deluxe Editions of "Basin Street" and "Clifford Brown and Max Roach"...
  9. "For Alto" from 1968 is notable as Braxton's very first solo saxophone album, and the first ever(?) full-length solo sax album from any artist. And it was a double LP, to boot! It makes a lot of "Greatest Discs of All Time" type lists, and is genuinely essential. If you like the Art Ensemble of Chicago, "3 Compositions of New Jazz" (also 1968) is a gentle entry into Mr. Braxton's world.
