  1. I asked my daughter what she wanted to listen to and she said trombone. This got the nod. I think Larry also likes this one. There can't be many trombone/piano/bass albums out there.
  2. Thad maybe gets lost in the conversation regarding the great trumpeters, but he belongs there.
  3. I missed him the last time he was in town. At least I did catch him here once, with Jeremy Manasia, David Williams(!) and Willie Jones III.
  4. Disc 3: Inspired by Rooster's search. I found this a few years ago for under $40. I think it was a low Buy It Now rather than a low starting bid.
  5. Happy Birthday, Russell Malone!
  6. This is my 4th or 5th listen since it arrived on Saturday. I started it today and my daughter grabbed her dolls and said, 'Time to dance.'
  7. Hank and Elvin with Richard Davis.
  8. He was on my first jazz album, Dizzy's Gillespiana (paired with The Carnegie Hall Concert). I never had the pleasure of seeing him perform, but he is always a welcome presence on record. Thank you for the music, Mr. Camero, and rest in peace.
  9. I have in-laws who have ignored masking and social distancing and voted for Trump. I wasn't surprised. I married the sensible, educated one in the family, who is pretty much Cousin Marilyn from The Munsters.
  10. This arrived along with the Bud Freeman Mosaic Single today. With the good news becoming official, adding two albums I've wanted for years is the cherry on top.
  11. From the Bee Hive Mosaic. Roy Haynes! 'Donna Lee' done at such a breakneck tempo is a heck of a way to start the record.
  12. Disc 5: An essential Mosaic.
  13. With the potential of 4 more years of inhumanity looming, Ornette's expressive cry of humanity is soothing.
  14. My most recent buys: Besides having the three stray tracks from the session that makes up the second volume, the five tracks with Philly Joe are fantastic. I've realized that I need all of Hope's leader dates. I have 6. This has been on my list forever. I like Freeman's session on the Capitol Mosaic, so this should be good. Another one that has long been on my list. I have no Lasha leader dates. I thought of him when listening to Hubert Laqs last night. Dusty Groove was selling a new copy of their CD reissue for $6.99, so carpe diem. I ordered a signed copy of the Jamal CD/DVD from his site. I saw this edition of his band twice around the time of his subsequent release, Saturday Morning, so this will be a pleasant reminder.
  15. I hope that he had a happy birthday. He is a remarkable musician.
  16. The Half Note recordings. Inexplicably, the longer take of 'Four on Six' appears to have only been released here. That makes this compilation essential.
  17. Today is a day for some Horace Silver good vibes.
