  1. I enjoy the one Clayton Brothers album I have, but I never did get around to seeing that group or the orchestra. Thank you for the music, Mr. Clayton, and rest in peace.
  2. Argh. I didn't realize that Jaleel Shaw was in the group and would have caught at least one of the nights had I known. Having heard him 10+ times with Roy Haynes and then with some other leaders, I have to say that Shaw is one of the top saxophonists on the scene. I'd buy their record in a heartbeat. Steve Nelson has been keeping busy. He played on Friday at the Village Vanguard again, this time with Kenny Barron. Other than 'How Deep Is the Ocean' and 'Well, You Needn't', I don't think I'd heard Barron play any of the other compositions live. It was a great set.
  3. The Salute to Satch session. I don't own the Newman/Cohn/Green Mosaic Select, but this has 2/5 of that set and two albums that aren't on it.
  4. Larry mentioned Dennis passing away in 1963. Do we have more information about his final years? Although I once asked Jimmy Heath about both Dennis and Ali, he only talked about Ali.
  5. This was my first exposure to Morgan and many of the musicians here when I bought it 13 or 14 years ago. Not a bad place to start.
  6. i started out with this today: Disc 8 I am now listening to this: Disc 1
  7. I miss Phil's posts.
  8. I found a signed copy of this on eBay for less than $10. A nice little bonus was that it was also signed by Larry Gray and Robert Shy. Someone must've seen Red when he was touring to support the release and had Gray and Shy sign it at the gig, too. I'm assuming it was in Chicago, unless they toured with Red.
  9. Happy Birthday, Mr. Harris!
  10. Top-shelf material.
  11. I had lost hope that we'd ever hear this one. I don't know the drummer, but I am drooling over the thought of Odean Pope and Art Davis digging into Ali's music.
  12. I live in the Cleveland area. I have a package that was picked up and arrived at the post office in Kansas City on November 30th, with an expected delivery date of December 4th. On December 3rd, it arrived at a postal facility...in Kansas City. It left Kansas City that day and arrived in Cleveland on the 7th. 4 days later, it has not left the facility. I get a daily text telling me it is in transit and running late.
  13. I didn't know about this one! Heavy sounds are guaranteed with those two. Now playing: Sadik Hakim - Lazy Bird
  14. It's ridiculous that some of those Japanese Blue Notes have tracks that aren't readily available elsewhere. I have many of the ones I want (including Here 'Tis), but I don't understand why the tracks can't at least be made available as album-only downloads in the US.
  15. This'll be making the morning's errands better.
  16. I never noticed anything.
  17. The only time I talked to Ron Carter, he recommended that I get this one.
  18. Disc 3: With my current Don Cherry binge, I had to pull this one out. I need to organize the alternates from this set.
