  1. 9. "Kids Are Pretty People" (Thad Jones) Billy Mitchell Quintet A Little Juicy (Smash) w/ Thad, Richard Wyands, Kenny Burrell, Herman Wright, Oliver Jackson The arrangement comes from (or precedes) the big band arrangement.
  2. John Coltrane: Live at the Half Note Song of Praise 19:39 My Favorite Things 22:47
  3. This has all changed. The third symbol from the left is now u for underline. There is nothing called "Special BBC Code." The <> button (whatever that is) has no "Media" option. The "Insert other media" button doesn't either. Please advise.
  4. It all depends on the venue. The Vanguard bartender sells your CDs for you at the bar for no fee, but customarily you tip for the service $1-2 per CD. The Kennedy Center sells your CD for a 30% commission! Many venues charge a commission even if you are selling your CDs yourself off the bandstand, but some don't.
  5. That's always been my "go to" recording (along with Bud's solo piano on Verve) for students to learn how to play solo at any tempo without a stride left hand.
  6. Believe me, there is nothing more surreal than sitting at THAT piano, with headphones on and hearing yourself as if you are actually INSIDE a groove of a BN 4000 series LP.
  7. When I recorded at Rudy's he was all business. Fortunately he didn't make any editorial comments about the music itself, unlike other engineers I've had - that's the last thing you need. I will say that Rudy's volume of play-backs was ear-splitting loud, I don't know why.
  8. 00:21 I love how Griff says, "What is this, a hum-along?" and Wes replies, "Well if you can hum and play at the same time, that's beautiful. Nice!"
  9. Just remembered something funny about that Vanguard week. One night Von started to play a tune I didn't know, I can't remember now what it was. Before he got too far into it I tried to wave him off. He just smiled and said, "In that case, feel free to express yourself!"
  10. It seems incredibly petty to me that Blue Note would put "Etc." in place of McCoy's name on the covers of Page One, In 'n Out and Night Dreamer just because (I'm assuming) McCoy was recording as a leader for Impulse at the time.
  11. 6/19/15 Jazz saxophonist Buddy (4 letters) and "_________ Serenades" (1952 jazz album) 8 letters. What the hell is this?!?
  12. I wish it was Alice Tully Hall. It was Merkin Hall in 1992, but thanks for reminiscing Marty. The concert was entitled "Monk, Bud and Bird: Rediscovered Rarities"
  13. 10. Jimmy Heath 11. Charlie Rouse with Tommy Flanagan, George Mraz and Kenny Washington from this. Forgot the name of the tune. 12. Wayne playing Contemplation with J@LC Orchestra a couple of weeks ago. 13. Johnny Griffin, Von Freeman, Billy Higgins, Ron Carter, John Young. - This was from Alice Tully Hall August 6, 1990. It was a double bill of Johnny Griffin's Quartet (me, Dennis Irwin, Kenny Washington) and Von Freeman with John Young, Ron Carter and Billy Higgins. I didn't remember this - apparently Johnny and Von played an encore together.
  14. Olivier Messiaen Les offrandes oubliées Trois petites Liturgies de la Présence Divine Turangalîla-Symphonie Réveil des oiseaux Sept haïkaï
