Airlines, banks, credit card companies, utility companies.... I've had a few pleasant surprises, but most of the time it's pretty bad, especially when you're stuck on hold for who knows how long and are forced to listen to the most inane, repetitive, awful crap. Post your "on hold" nightmares here. I'll start: IBERIAN AIRLINES

Thanks everyone. -
I think #14 is "Cabaret." This type of number commonly referred to as a "flag waver."

They never gave Johnny Griffin one. He was a US citizen but he lived in Europe since 1963 - maybe that was the factor.

Still hitting' with that ferocious intensity. Tonight Cobb kept the pots on on at least three fast tempos in the one set - Del Sasser, Lazybird, and something else. Are Cobb, Roy Haynes and (semi-retired) Al Harewood the oldest active jazz drummers of all time?

Best jazz performance you never saw ...

I remember hearing about that club, La Bastille. I was lucky to hear Duke that summer 1973 at Interlochen Music Camp. But I missed Ella with Tommy Flanagan at the Dallas Fairmont, not to mention any number of headliners at the Lark Club before my time like Lou Donaldson and Sonny Stitt. -

At the Met: Balthus, Cats and Girls This piece was amazing: William Kentridge's five-channel video installation The Refusal of Time (2012), a thirty-minute meditation on time and space, the complex legacies of colonialism and industry, and the artist's own intellectual life. -

I got a little bit of a head start so I'll chime in to get things rolling. It ain't much, but from a quick listen through: 1). Sounds like Walter Davis, Jr. I know I've heard this tune before but don't remember the name of it. Is that also a young Kenny Washington? 3). The first tenor solo sounds like Frank Wess. Can't ID anyone else. 4). I have no idea who this is. I like the composition, not the bass solo. Wish the pianist played a little more. 7). Jacquet playing Body and Soul on bassoon. 8). Sounds Keith Jarrett-ish. Is that him? Sorry, that's all I got.

Broadcast on CBS now. Bill O'Reilly? WTF?

A very serious, no-nonsense uncompromising musician, held in unquestionable high esteem by the entire NY jazz community. Dwayne had overcome yet continued to battle serious health issues for several years. I don't know the circumstances surrounding his death, but had just seen him perform with Peter Bernstein last Thursday. He was only 43. I had the pleasure of working with Dwayne on several occasions over the past twenty years. RIP

Barcelona: - The Sagrada Familia is awe inspiring. You must buy tickets in advance to reserve a time slot, but you can stay as long as you like. Well worth it. - La Boqueria (the market) is a top destination, just off the Ramblas. There are many delicious food stalls. The seafood one in the back (#220), "Bar Boqueria" is killin'.
