  1. Just got a good news/bad news story from Cadence. The good news is that they just got in a shipment of Venus recordings, including both backordered and new titles. The bad news is that they've apparently raised the base price of Venus CDs from $20 to $22.50. But especially with the Cadence subscriber discount, they still probably have the best price around (at least in this hemisphere).
  2. One more thing, as long as you're there in the future- does the trombone ever become a hip, in-demand instrument? Ever? Even a little bit? Yes, but sadly for us it is 42 years sideways in time - in a dimension where a trombone player got separated from his marching band and deflected the bullet meant for JFK. Is that the alternate dimension in which Sony has released 11 different J.J. Johnson box sets?
  3. Now THAT'S service!
  4. The northeast US is getting a little crowded. Hope I'm not standing on anyone's toes!
  5. Brownie, I just got this a few days ago, but haven't had a chance to listen yet (probably tomorrow). Now I'm looking forward to it even more! Thanks! I've also recently acquired some of the other Andorran/Spanish releases of relatively rare Wes recordings, including "A Good Git-Together/Kismet" (also on Lonehill), "The Incrdible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery" (Definitive) which includes 4 terrific sides of Wes' quartet at the Half Note in Feb. '65 and 4 tracks of him with Martial Solal and others in Hamburg in April '65, and "Live in Belgium 1965" (Gambit) which includes 5 tracks in Belgium, 5 in London, and the same 4 ( I believe) in Hamburg that also appear on the Definitive release. I've had Definitive's 2-CD "Complete Live in Paris" for some time. I haven't listened to "A Good Git-Together" yet, but the others all have fairly decent sound (some of it great), and for the most part feature some fairly long tracks that really allow Wes to stretch out. I know you probably already have these Brownie , but I mention them in case any other Wes fans out there aren't aware of them.
  6. I believe the licensing agreement dictates not only a specific maximum number of copies, but also a time limit, whichever comes first. Hence, certain sets will go out of print having sold fewer than the maximum allowed. It also depends on the particular set as to whether and by how much its license limits time in addition to quantity, as the Mosaic site states:
  7. Are we sure about that? Welcome, Troy!
  8. Jim, you're too good to us (of which I'm sure you are acutely aware).
  9. Next for me, an RVG upgrade (hopefully it's an upgrade):
  10. That must be one big shovel you got there, Chuck. And so neat, too.
  11. Nope, just the Farlow. Although I've been tempted by the Eldridge (I already have Mulligan, Jazztet, and Basie direct from Mosaic). Interestingly, the Farlow still seems to be the only one of these that is widely distributed in the US at discounted prices (at Amazon--regular and Marketplace, Tower, CD Universe, etc.).
  12. I agree with Jim R that the edit function already allows someone to supplement a post without the need for this automatic feature, which actually takes away some control and can be confusing and/or frustrating.
  13. Thanks guys! These are terrific.
  14. I can't remember for that length of time.
  15. My guess is if it happens it would be sometime in the spring. There's a jazz booking agency in Baltimore. The agency handles Dave Liebman, Paul Bollenbeck, Herb Ellis, Jimmy Bruno, Greg Hatza, and many others. The booker is interested in us and would be able to help us organize an east coast tour. Does this mean I won't be getting any press kits?
  16. So how much of this can we trust?
  17. Any time I enter the chat room, anyone in there leaves. Should I change deoderant?
  18. DEFINITELY.
  19. TM, you should check Caiman at Amazon once this has been out a few weeks. Could be another Farlow in the making (who knew Tal and Buddy were so much alike? ).
  20. Great shot! I like the way he plays sidesaddle.
  21. Caught them in Philly a few weeks ago--and Golson earlier this year. Both great shows! Mark, I don't know if you've photographed Mabern before, but you should try to do so on Sunday. He's very expressive and interesting to watch while he plays, and should be a terrific subject.
  22. True, but the only discussion/argument from this session that I've ever actually heard is after the false start on the first take of "The Man I Love," and I was wondering if there's any other recorded discussion that was released on, e.g., the Monk Prestige Box.
  23. Tired of waiting for a Philly gig, Peter? Send me a PM with your contact info, and we'll make that happen. And in the press kits.
  24. The intro and arguement (as on the original lp) is on disc 3 of the Monk/Prestige box. Oh the pleasures of an aging brain ..... of course it's there - they had left it off the Miles Davis box set ... whatever that means. Are you guys just talking about the false start and Miles' scolding of the others on the first take of "The Man I Love," which also appears on "Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants" CDs? Or is there additional "argument" from that session on Disc 3 of the Monk Prestige box?
