Use some deoderant before coming in next time, and maybe I will.

But Dude, you don't have THIS looking all nice and pretty up on your shelf:

What are the four bonus tracks? 4 tracks recorded in Paris in 1958 by the "JATP All-Stars," which were used in a French film soundtrack. Roy Eldridge and Stan Getz appear on the first of these, Coleman Hawkins on the second, Roy Eldridge on the third, and Dizzy Gillespie on the fourth. You can read about this release here.

I picked up a used copy of the US Release from an Amazon Marketplace seller not too long ago. I was very lucky--clean, mint copy that looked like it had been unwrapped but never played nor handled. I just checked though (as I'm sure you have), and there are currently NONE available. This is the kind of record label nonsense I just don't understand: This title is widely regarded as one of the best of its type from that era, and certainly as Ellis' masterpiece (AMG gives it 5 stars AND its check mark). And it's clearly in demand--NO used copies currently available through Amazon or Ebay. Yet Verve lets it go OOP (although it is available on iTunes, apparently).

You owe me 3 cents.

Weizen???

I graduated in '80, so I left just 3 months before you got there. And Chalupa, this one's for you:

You and your fuzzy math.

What's the deal with this link? I keep getting redirected to the Verve site. Anyway, so far the opening of Horace's vault is much like when Geraldo finally got into Capone's. MY link???? IMPOSSIBLE!!!! I NEVER give bad link. Besides, Horace gives me 3 cents for every autographed book or photo sold from this link.

$50 for an autographed book, $25 for an autographed photo.

I was born there, and went back there for law school in the late '70's, but haven't been back for a visit in way too long (over 10 years). You're lucky to be there--it's a great town.

for those who missed out the cheap Universal Mosaics
Ron S replied to tjobbe's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Way to go, Ron. How was the packaging? Any transatlantic damage? I actually haven't had a chance to go through it yet, Erik. I should be able to inspect everything tomorrow and let you know. -
Both the Mulligan CJB Village Vanguard and Wes Montgomery "Willow Weep For Me" LPRs are, or at least the ones I got from yourmusic.com were. IIRC, all the others I've obtained from various sources have been digipacks.
-
CD Universe still has all 3 for their preorder price of under $8.40 each--though not for much longer, since they've been available now for almost a week. Of course, yourmusic.com will be even cheaper, with free shipping, if they get them.

My order arrived today--amazing! Shipped from Germany on a Wednesday and arrives at my house in Philly the very next Monday (5 days total for those who don't want to count). Many of my domestic orders have taken longer than that! -
True, the Digipacks and mini-LPs have a certain panache missing from the lowly jewel case; but for protection and preservation of the disc, artwork, and inserts, the jewel case is still superior. You can always replace a scratched/damaged jewel case and make the packaging as good as new, but you can't do that with the cardboard stuff. To put it another way, "I want to say one word to you . . . . Just one word . . . . Plastics."* *Mr. McGuire to Benjamin, "The Graduate" (1967)

Guy, did it still have all the other discs, or are you missing one? One of those Gordon Prestige boxes is currently making its way to me from 2001, so maybe that's my disc 3 you have! If so, I should use that as an excuse to come to Paris to pick it up. -
No, not part of the LPR series. Part of what appears to be a new series--Verve (or Decca in the case of the Raney) "Originals". Jewel cases with a 4-page insert that depicts the original cover's front and back, and otherwise contains only personnel and track information (including original master numbers) and the original liner notes. ... Sounds like the latest of the LPRs looked over here (Lateef, Ayler...) But these are definitely not part of the LPR series--not so indicated on their respecitve pages on the Verve web site, and not included on the LPR page of that site. Perhaps Verve has replaced that series with this one? I'm sure the packaging on these is much cheaper than the digipacks--and previously mini-LPs--of the LPR series, which require "custom" printing of each package as opposed to generic jewel cases and cheap inserts.
-
The Raney was originally issued on ABC-Paramount. Which is noted inside the insert, yet the outside of the case is labeled "Decca Originals" where the Ellis and Roberts are labeled "Verve Originals", and the Verve web site page on the Raney release says "original releasing label Decca Records."

I have all 3 now, but so far have only listened to the Ellis and Raney. Both are good, but the Ellis is the standout for me. Somewhat similar to "Nothing But the Blues" and his sessions in the Mosaic Columbia Small Group Swing box, which I also like a lot.

It does, per the email:

Mark, does this mean Jeff is missing in action (and not just from the Board)?
-
"Nomad" track 4. Great mf tune. It's sorta loud? How'd the interview go, BTW? real good... likely making a change.

Now see? If I'd been there last night, I could have shared only one of those with you (the GG, of course ).
