True, the Digipacks and mini-LPs have a certain panache missing from the lowly jewel case; but for protection and preservation of the disc, artwork, and inserts, the jewel case is still superior. You can always replace a scratched/damaged jewel case and make the packaging as good as new, but you can't do that with the cardboard stuff.
To put it another way, "I want to say one word to you . . . . Just one word . . . . Plastics."*
