  1. thank you doing all of this Laurie.. It takes someone with integrity and passion to keep this stuff alive and still coming out.. Even though I did have part of Disc 1 before (e.g., Mosaic Select) I am very happy to have the rest... Discs 2 and 3 (particularly the live songs) are killer material.. )) Personally I really seem like the late 70s Art.... I've got all 4 and I look forward to the next one... thank you.
  2. Discs 1 through 3... of the new Art History Project... Disc 3 the best of the bunch!!!!!!!
  3. Finally got my copy yesterday... as much as I'm enjoying it... please note that there is some duplication between Disc 1 and the Mosaic Select... Its' only about 5 or 6 tunes as I can tell... Liner notes say that most of Discs 2 and 3 are previously unreleased... Not a complaint... just an FYI....
  4. the only thing I was ever able to find was one of those Proper boxes???? thanks
  5. I assume some of this stuff has been released before... Is any of this on rhapsody.com so I can get a listen before I decide??? thanks
  6. you must have ordered it immediately... as I waited two days and it was already out of stock... I did get an email that they got more copies and shipped mine yesterday. Hopefully I'll get mine on Monday... I didn't like the cover... But how's the liner notes????
  7. what's the scoop on this???? http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record.php?record_id=4781 One of the interesting claims.... is "All tracks previously unissued on any format." Is that true? Does anyone have this?
  8. That's very helpful... My dilemma is simple.. I don't have either... and the Columbia sessions are a bit cheaper.... Hmmm.... What do you think? Yes, there is a good amount of duplication. Disc 1: 1-10 is on the Mosaic box, as is Disc 2: 11-21 and Disc 3: 1-2 The sound on the Columbia box is also excellent. I haven't compared them closely, but have no complaints about the sound on either of them. The boxes represent very different concepts, however. The Columbia box gives a general overview of the Basie era on Columbia (1936, 1938-1950) through selected recordings. The Mosaic box presents all of the known Columbia recordings of Basie and Lester Young (plus a session without Basie). If you have the Columbia box and are salivating for more Basie & Pres, then get the Mosaic. If not, then don't.
  9. I have to say... (other than the fact that I've been on a bit of spending spree.... ) I finally caved and bought this from the jpc.de website.... http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/SESSIONID/266b45f5...581#produktinfo I will say this.. to get this set... without the eloborate packaging for less than 1/3rd the regular price is amazing! With overseas shipping it cost me about $65.... Can't wait to check this out... I would have to recommend it, if you didn't cough up the full price and want to get it before it goes OOP.. :excited:
  10. Wow... I assume the Mosaic has better sound??? Yes, there is a good amount of duplication. Disc 1: 1-10 is on the Mosaic box, as is Disc 2: 11-21 and Disc 3: 1-2
  11. Is there any duplication between the Mosaic Young-Basie and this set??? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C9JD...;pf_rd_i=507846 thanks!
  12. I'm going to pick up a copy next week.... (Still recovering from the Basie order:) Okay.. I changed my mind...
  13. Madeline Peyroux @ the Berklee Performance Center last night... :tup She was quite good.. she's kinda sexy... The show was a little short... ( an hour and a half)... but I enjoyed it... Lee Konitz in two weeks!!! :excited:
  14. I caved and bought the Basie Verve Fifties Studio Sessions... I have to sleep on it though... I might call Mosaic in the AM and switch it to the Lester Young....
  15. I wonder if it's been delayed??? Mrs. Pepper????
  16. Ditto... Same here... thanks Ron!
  17. Anybody found that new Art Pepper online yet????
  18. Hmmmm... you've got me thinking... I've never sold a Mosaic... (until now... I'm about to donate the Chico Hamilton to my local library)... At the moment I'm giving the digital version of the Basie Live set another go-round... The thing that originally turned me off about it was the dozen or or versions of One O'Clock Jump...  What makes you think I'll like the Lester-Basie set better than the Lester Verve box?? Or should I take a deep Basie plunge and get the Basie Verve Studio Sessions??? I'm really confused....
  19. My sole hestitation is that I have the Lester Young Verve box which I hardly play... and the Count Basie Live Roulette... which rarely gets played....  If you don't already have the Lester Young material, it is essential. Agreed.
  20. I'm really torn between this and the Lester Young... I've got to figure out how to spend my Father's Day present.... :D :D
  21. Disc 6 of... Five Trios.. Chick Corea... Available only in Japan or off his website....
  22. tommorrow's the big day...!! As soon as it's on CDbaby... I'm there! thanks a ton Laurie.!! and thanks for the pricing info... A great idea!
  23. Good show... not great but good... When Pat & Gary played duos or Pat played in a trio setting it was excellent.. The full quartet thing didn't work too well...
  24. Off to see Pat Metheny/Gary Burton Quartet in Boston!!!!!!
  25. Got a question for you Shawites... Do you think this set would be a resonable/good intro to his work???? I'm on the fence on this one... debating whether I should spend my Father's Day gift certificate on this on Lester Young???
