  1. When I saw him with Kenny Barron a few months ago, he didn't look 70 nor frail. I wonder if his death was sudden and unexpected or was holding in a fatal illness like Ken Peplowski, this year? RIP so sad for his family and friends.
  2. And?? Are you saying you prefer the beginning of the Elvin/McCoy quartet or the later stuff?
  3. I think I understand what you mean but can you clarify? Why isn't this Tiberi set comparable to the several other live boxed sets?
  4. Okay not to hijack this thread.. but after listening briefly to the Tiberi release and the Live Trane set (which I need to dig into again in its' entirety)... I'm sure folks on this board can provide some insight on the following question. What are your top 3 Coltrane live releases? Thanks.
  5. I'm listening now... I'm up in the air.. I think it will come down to the number of Cds. I need to go back and listen to some of the other live Trane I've got (The European Tours to start) to get a sense of whether it's worth it or I have enough.. Years ago I would have jumped at this... Now... I'm getting older and pickier.
  6. I'm trying to be a little more open-minded to these bands I've never heard of. It seems this festival (the first one under Nate Smith) has a smidge more jazz to it than Christian McBride's last few festivals. When he had Common as the headliner a few years ago I knew I was out... I'm hoping this is going to be get better.
  7. Another big agree.. Augh...
  8. Interesting. Even though I don't know 2/3rds of these groups, there are some folks I'd love to see (e.g. Charles Lloyd, The Bad Plus, etc.) What do you think? Anybody know any of these other names ,you'd recommend? https://newportjazz.org/lineup
  9. https://newportjazz.org/tickets I'm very cautiously optimistic that the lineup will start shifting back to jazz, since they have a new programmer. We'll see.
  10. Morning. I came across this while I scrolling on Instagram and was shocked. I never had any impression that these two played together. Does anyone have any more info about this? Thanks.
  11. Paul Desmond Mosaic ... I could listen to this for eons...
  12. Without even searching through this thread... the first one (who I know has been brought up), is Lee Konitz. I miss him a lot. Managed to see him maybe 2x before he passed away. He left us a great recorded legacy although I wish there was some unreleased Lee to come out.
  13. What do you mean by "non-musical past times?" Someone else made a similar reference to this and I have no idea what the backstory is.
  14. Wish I could be there... I've been a big fan of hers for years but have never been able to see her live. Enjoy the show!
  15. For some very odd reason, I just got an itching to listen to him more. Does anyone have this? Worth it? Looking around it seems there might be some smaller box sets of his work. And I have a stupid related question... Given his output, why didn't he do the Bond movie soundtracks? I mean I know the opening songs often got high profile pop stars (e.g., Billie Eilish, Shirley Massey, Sheena Easton, etc.) but it would have been an interesting mix. Thanks.
  16. Do you have everything backed up? Apple should be able to walk you through a password reset via the phone.
  17. It is the rebranded Celebrity Series. Although I have appreciated their jazz programming almost all of the events are overpriced. I'm going to the Kris Davis Trio tonight in Cambridge. I don't know the backstory about the change but I've been a bit disappointed with their jazz events over the last few years.
  18. I'm just wondering why there's never been a box set of this group?
  19. Caught Christian McBride and Usra Major last night. Was okay. Not great. Nicole Glover was interesting. Not what I expected.
  20. Okay my bad... I hate autocorrect .. esp when it doesn't work.
  21. Thanks so much! Great sound samples. I'm totally in!
  22. Anybody got any info/insight on this? Thanks. https://www.jazzmusicarchives.com/album/carla-bley/joyful-noise-live-in-hamburg-1984(live)
  23. Hey all.. came across these being listed on Bandcamp and a few other places. I thought I'd share the info. I ordered a copy of the Jamal, Lateef and Henderson on importcds (a little cheaper). The Petrucciani (frustratingly) appears to only be a European release. Any thoughts about any of these? https://yuseflateeflive.bandcamp.com/album/alight-upon-the-lake-live-at-the-jazz-showcase https://ahmadjamallive.bandcamp.com/album/at-the-jazz-showcase-live-in-chicago https://joehendersonlive.bandcamp.com/album/consonance-live-at-the-jazz-showcase https://malwaldronlive.bandcamp.com/album/stardust-starlight-live-at-the-jazz-showcase https://www.elemental-music.com/jazz-treasures/4942--michel-petrucciani-kuumbwa-8435395505113.html
  24. Any place for more sound samples other than the three on Mosaic's website?
